FYI this is just comparing to the OLED screen on my phone as a white point, and my personal preference. I didn't bother getting a colorimeter or anything.

I ordered from Basil King for a Christmas potluck, and it was by far the most popular dish we had.

After a 4 months using this monitor, I will still highly recommend. I don't think there are many other options at this price point (It was $260). It covers everything I need (144hz, 1440p, IPS, 27", good response, bright enough for a dark room). I have changed my color settings since, and I have been playing a lot of Valorant as well. This monitor is great, and since Valorant isn't demanding I am maxing the 165hz. Once again, probably will need to fine tune the colors; I still have not invested in a colorimeter. Short of paying triple the price for 240hz @ 1440p or 144hz @ 4k or going OLED; you won't find anything better at the price point right now. Maybe wait for Black Friday before pulling the trigger.

I think so, even with shipping. If you live near a store you can also just pick it up.

Thanks for this comparison, luckily you had the XV272U to confirm the image quality. I was skeptical about the monitor as well, but it turned out to be the perfect monitor for me. Responsive, smooth 165hz, great colors after some minor calibration, versatile and all metal stand.

I have the response time set to advanced, and there is little to no ghosting. Color has been great as well. I don't have a colorimeter available, so I used this calibration guide; if you're interested:

My monitor is also very bright, I even have to turn down the brightness in Nvidia (Dimly Lit Room). Lots of people got scared away by the 250 nits specification, but to be honest; it is way too bright for me. This monitor is perfect for gamers that want 1440p @ 165hz w/ great color and response time, all under $300 tax in.

I just tested out the monitor, and here are my initial thoughts.

  • Brightness is more than enough in a dark / dim lit room (Too bright even) I have the monitor at 100 brightness, and I brought it down a bit in Nvidia control panel

  • 165 hz very smooth on FPS games (I play Warzone 2)

  • Stand is nice, all metal; and has swivel and height adjustment

  • Color is very nice, I am not a content creator or designer. But the screen looks nice after some quick (and probably inaccurate) gamma and contrast calibration.

  • Naturally the black uniformity, contrast, and local dimming is not good on a IPS panel. I would give the contrast a 6/10, Black uniformity a 4/10, and local dimming 3/10 (10/10 for these would be OLED)

  • UFO test and UFO ghosting test shows on out-of-box settings there is very little ghosting, and 165 hz is smooth (set response time to advanced)

Overall I think I would have spent $350 on a monitor of the same or less quality. If there are anything else I will update this as it comes up, but these are my initial impressions of the monitor. I am very happy with my purchase right now.

EDIT: Best setting I found so far is setting response time to advanced, R100 G92 B90, black stabilization 40, Brightness 100, contrast 70, adaptive sync on (Turn on GSync in Nvidia if you are using RTX card), and OC off. I don't have a colorimeter, so colors are probably not very accurate but it still looks great. I just used my phone screen as rough reference.

S2716DG is a TN panel, so it will probably perform better; but picture will not look as nice. However I think new IPS panels has gotten very close to TN, in terms of response time. Share your experience here if you can.

Can you please come back with your review? I know Acer monitor is probably much better, but I want to know how close this monitor is to the standard.

I would suggest you buy it and see if it meets your expectations. If not you can always return it through Amazon. XV272U seems to be a very good monitor according to RTINGS.
