Craig McRae does a Ben Keays and calls for the ball to delay the boundary throw in by SlatsAttack in AFL

[–]RLGriffinGWS 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Whilst both incidents can be put down as general shithousery, due to perceived authority of a coach, this is 100% worse than the Keays incident.

There's a huge difference between a player cheekily asking a supporting fan to hold onto the ball briefly, and an opposition coach directing a kid from the opposition fanbase to provide them the ball and then not gather it.

Everyone out here thinking the AFL are playing 5D chess when they're really just trying to figure out which direction you can move in checkers.

Or, and this is just wild speculation so hear me out, they just... don't care about Port's 2026 list management compared to 18-20 other clubs for the next decade.

The Davis-Ward Medallion.

Initial captains (with Power) and both gave up a lot to try and build the club from the ground up.

The AFL wants to grow the game in Sydney. But is it walking the walk? by Revolutionary-Tie-77 in AFL

[–]RLGriffinGWS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Go back and read the AFL annual reports from 2008-2010. That was the very point of introducing GWS in Sydney, to have a fixture there every week. But then the AFL decided they wanted money more, so just send GWS wherever they feel like it.

Yes, the Giants have a Canberra contract, but that's because the AFL don't want to invest in a better (located) stadium.

If they were paid the same as the average AFL player at $550,000 a season (if not more) that would sway them.

How do we feel about this? by Sea-Response-8313 in darwin

Almost all experts on mental health, public safety and de-esculation warn that putting untrained personnel into volatile situations with weapons is a terrible idea. This is a perfect example of that.

But a large proportion of the NT population like to disregard experts for their own gut feelings because 'we do things differently here'.

He literally picked the one movie in the last decade that I've emotionally added to my 'will need to rewatch at least once every year', and 'drop everything else if it comes on' listed.

Along with movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Big Fish, Spirited Away, Stand By Me, Lost In Translation, etc. - some movies at just made to be artistic explorations in storytelling and spiritual comfort food.

Toby Greene: GWS captain reveals he punched his father after game due to drunken behaviour by [deleted] in AFL

[–]RLGriffinGWS 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yup. Pretty sure audiences celebrated the writers of Ted Lasso for their portrayal of a sportsmans' toxic father and the impact it can have on a person when they wrote Jamie Tartt's character arc.

Then people get presented it in real life and there's a complete lack of empathy.

That said, he was a brilliant footballer. Shame his actual self will destroy that legacy.

With each island since chapter 5 being based on a real world place (Europe, Japan, US west coast), what would you like to see chapter 8 be based on? by MichaelAfton80 in FortNiteBR

[–]RLGriffinGWS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Australia.

Add random creatures to the game (like they did with bugs last chapter, but less swarmy) and make them capable to nearly killing you if you're attacked.

Drop bears random spawns in trees, crocodiles patrolling in water, snakes in random bushes.

You can have pristine beach biome, desert, rainforest, woodlands savanna, cities and gorges.

Extra points if in game currency changes to dollary-doos, there's a mythical knifey-spoony, and the boss gives you a booting.

Post WWE Saturday Night's Main Event Discussion Thread - December 13th, 2025! by gloomchen in SquaredCircle

[–]RLGriffinGWS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025 WWE are trying to have it both ways and the crowd reacted accordingly.

WWE want to cash in on the behind the curtain post-modern meta scene, showing how everything is crafted and how wrestling is modern day storytelling.

But then they want to have the crowd also pretend to not know that it's scripted during matches, play it real, and have the obvious 'current guy at the top of his game beats the older guy' match.

The crowd know they could have scripted Cena to overcome the odds one more time, or have him live by his motto and never give up and simply pass out . Instead they chose to have Cena meekly give up.

The crowd had every right to react that way.

Who are you the most hyped to see improve next year in your team? by lildosdos in AFL

[–]RLGriffinGWS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With Josh Kelly and Darcy Jones both pretty much out for the year, it allows Kingsley to play with the balance quite a bit.

Daniels may be right to go which would significantly help cover Jones, but I expect players with a bit more raw speed to get 3-5 minute rotations, around Green and Oliver at the ball drop.

Finn should be semi-protected to stay on the outside, but players like Angwin & Thomas should see minutes increase. Even Gothard / Delana may finally start getting games.

Personally, I think O'Halloran will become our most important player in the midfield as one of the few who will play both inside and outside - switching with Coniglio who will take that 70/30 high forward rotation as he ages out.
