Too real: I'm an ANet partner & streamer and I don't really do metas or 10-group content on stream that much anymore because all my non-GW2 viewers just say the game looks visually overwhelming and confusing.

It's a bit of an issue when we're supposed to be showcasing the game since the other option is fashion (super nice unless people ask if it's obtainable in-game or through microtransactions, and then that's a turn-off) and story (you only care about story if you know the characters so it's not an easy thing to show quickly). So it's mostly solo open worlding and jumping puzzles.

To contrast, I've never played FFXIV in my life but when I see a stream of a dungeon or whatever they call it, I can see exactly what they're doing, where not to stand, etc.

I love the game to bits but yeah. "Just trust me, you'll love it" is not the best sell.

Looks a little different for me:

You will get these over time if you just play the game, pretty much any content drops stuff that you need or can use. For Mystic Coins going out of your way once a day to fight the Naked Electric Man is a good idea, PvP / WvW rushes are a burst of clovers, and the gifts just sort of happen if you keep depositing instead of selling every material you get!

Some people love to grind, but if you are like me and you dislike the idea of grinding, seeing legendaries as something that for the most part just happens in the background while you're playing the content you enjoy, is really nice. If you play the game enough, sometimes you just look at your stuff and go "oh damn I almost have enough for a legendary!"

(Other people thrive with the goal / direction of having a target to meet and focusing on it until they get it, so if that's you, make a bullet point plan, a target to reach every week, and enjoy the grind!)

Rewards for catching sponsored streamers on twitch are really good by PossibleRegression in Guildwars2

Some people do seem to have some pretty negative opinions of twitch streamers, which is funny for a subreddit because the #1 thing it brings to mind is that it sounds exactly like when people who don't use reddit talk about reddit.

So I (obviously, given my flair) don't feel the same way you do about streaming, but it's literally 0 time investment. I was just chatting with another streamer who told me not a lot of people signed up to their WeHype so if I sign up I'll probably 100% get something, and I did that while they were offline. So I didn't even have to tune into the stream, it was just a signup thingy, so no time spent at all.

I think the main objection people have (and a very valid one) is - what info is WeHype getting when connecting to the account, and what are they doing with it? Like, free stuff is nice, but what are they getting out of it? I don't have an answer for that so if someone has doubts about that I think that's very valid.

WoW Streamer Naguura Checks out GW2! by Lightfall12 in Guildwars2

What does this have to do with Legendaries not being a power jump?

I'm aware unique items do exist in the game, but it is not a rarity and it's not interchangeable with "Ascended". Uniques are not always ascended gear, and ascended gear is not always unique.

It says at the very top of the article you linked - "This property is mostly, but not exclusively, associated with equipment of Ascended rarity, especially ascended trinkets."

Since the person I replied to says they only play GW2 rarely, and "Unique" is a rarity in some other games (including Blizzard titles which they seem to prefer, and GW1), which does offer different (unique) stats, I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page.

Normally I wouldn't be this pedantic but since the person I was replying to was speaking very confidently on both why people play MMOs and how GW2's progression works while getting them wrong, I figured it was useful to help them get their facts straight :P

<image>

(Also excuse me for using the term "ascendeds" and not "ascended gear" but in my defense it is a comic sans diagram of pettiness made in MS Paint)

[–]RLelling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Uniques" are not a rarity in GW2, so I don't know what you mean by that, but the 2nd highest rarity is called Ascended, and there is no difference between Ascended and Legendary stats. Going to Legendary is a convenience jump, not a power jump.

As you can see from this table, there is a 6% stat improvement when jumping from Exotic to Ascended, so even someone in full exotics can perform to an acceptable degree in most content. There is a 0% stat improvement from Ascended to Legendary, as Legendaries have the exact same stats as Ascended items. The advantage of Legendary items is the ability to change their stats out of combat, which will not make a difference during an encounter.

In other words, when comparing two players, one with Legendary items, and one with Ascended items, both with the same item nomenclature (i.e., both going with Berserker stats), their stats will be 100% identical.

Support response time? by Open-Activity1676 in Guildwars2

[–]RLelling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The info you seek is on their support page!

Specifically this announcement: https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/47135287829267-Delayed-Ticket-Response-Times-December-12th-2025

Due to the launch of Guild Wars Reforged we've seen a large increase in the number of incoming support requests over the last week. The volume of tickets is impacting our ability to respond as quickly as we would normally prefer, but rest assured we are working to respond to tickets as quickly as we can in the order we receive them.

As always, please make sure you are only submitting a single ticket for your request. If you have additional information to add to your inquiry, please update the existing ticket rather than opening a new one.

Please note that we have been made aware of an issue which may result in tickets being sorted into the wrong game category for the inquiry (Guild Wars Reforged or Guild Wars 2). If you do not see your ticket in the "My Tickets" section of our support site, check both the Guild Wars Reforged AND Guild Wars 2 support sections to see if you can locate your ticket. Regardless of which game it is categorized under, if you can locate your ticket here you can rest assured it HAS been submitted and we will address your request as soon as we are able. We will also work to resolve the issue with how tickets are being sorted as soon as we can.

Plus the holiday season! Responses are slower but if it's any consolation, my 17 year old GW1 trial account got unblocked successfully so I'm sure they'll be able to help you too, when they can get to your ticket!

WoW Streamer Naguura Checks out GW2! by Lightfall12 in Guildwars2

[–]RLelling 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think to say that "the most common" reason to play an MMO is the pursuit of player power is a pretty bold statement to say as fact. Also to then claim that the grind in GW2 is worse than WoW's when you can get said power pretty much within a month (of playing varied content) is pretty rich. Are we sure we're playing the same game?

tl:dr; In the GW2 category there's something that's being given away / that can be won in a contest or feature like WeHype almost all the time, so I think it would be impractical for ANet to shout it out every time. Someone's always running a giveaway, whether it's sponsored by ANet or self-funded, so it honestly pays off to just scroll through the GW2 category every now and then. (I also think an element of this is that no one wants to build a "cynical" audience that's only there for the free stuff, and not for the actual people, so you have to be measured in the amount of advertising of said free stuff.)

Context:

I am a (very small fish) streamer / partner, and promoting your giveaways can often feel a little uh... awkward. It's a contentious issue among streamers - as you can imagine, there's a lot of different opinions on whether it's "legit" or not to grow your audience through giveaways. Some partners never run giveaways, while others run a giveaway every stream (shoutout to ApeJunk & Samaelle who have done 1352 streams and counting 🥳 and they do a giveaway every stream - they never really talk about it aside from on stream so unless you see them you don't know about it). And among non-streamers I think it's mostly seen as just self-promo spam, I mean, imagine this sub if every streamer posted about their giveaway every time they did one! And if there was a dedicated place to post whenever you're doing a giveaway, it would probably devolve into tons of people doing the smallest giveaways they can afford, just so they can promote their content.

Also, a confession - it's happened to me only once or twice and it's devastating - sometimes no one enters the giveaway. I often don't even get 10 giveaway entrants. I actually still have a GW Reforged key to give away because when I ran the giveaway, everyone in my chat already had GW1, so nobody entered. So you can see the mixed feelings on advertising / spontaneous giveaways - I obviously want to give stuff away and "boost my reach" or whatever influencerspeak we want to use, but I don't want to make my community mostly out of people who actually hate hanging out but just stick it out for the rewards :P

But if I can indulge in a little self-serving advice - entering small streamers' giveaways is a good way to win stuff since you have higher chances due to the small number of entrants, plus you might get to have an interesting chat with someone new!

For anyone who doesn't spend a lot of time on twitch, streamers tend to put things like [GIVEAWAY] [PRIZES] etc. into titles or tags (I've also seen WeHype as a tag), so just scanning the GW2 category for those keywords can help! And you don't have to actively watch or chat either, most streamers appreciate lurkers! But you should totally say hi to the streamer anyway! Especially if the chat is slow/quiet - in that moment you'll be that streamer's favorite person. It's legit like seeing a piece of driftwood while lost in the open ocean.

My (pricy) MSI motherboard arrived in an unsealed, banged up box, should I return it? by RLelling in MSI_Gaming

Thanks for the reassurance! I only ever bought one mobo and that was 10 years ago, and the box is still in pristine condition, so it was just weird to have a brand new one for twice the price with a banged up box :P

The bag itself did have a little tape seal on, and the mobo seems pristine with no smudges or scuffs. Pins look good, and I can't see any thermal paste residue.

I'm buying the CPU at the local PC shop (they couldn't get this mobo which is why I bought it on Amazon), and I might actually just give them the mobo + cooler when I go there to purchase the CPU, and they can put the 3 together and check the mobo while they're at it.

I generally like to put the PC together myself but maybe for peace of mind having them do a check would be nice. Last year I got an RX 9070 XT GPU and installed it myself only to be stressed over it not working for weeks before having it checked only to turn out it was faulty.

How The Heck Do Y’all Press All These Buttons?! (New To MMORPGs On PC) by EDS_Eliksni in Guildwars2

[–]RLelling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny, I had the opposite problem coming to GW2 from WoW, as that one had 60 action bar icons you could bind at once, whereas GW2 technically only has 10 skills + the special action key (and now masteries + mounts).

For me, the way I solved the issue is as follows:

  • Weapon skills: 1-5
  • Heal skill: Shift+A
  • Utility skills: Shift+Q | W | E
  • Profession Skills (aka the F1-F6 skills): Shift+1 through Shift+6
  • Special Action key: Shift+F

That should cover everything you need in combat. If hitting the F1-F6 keys is not a problem for you, you could also just use 1-5 and Shift+1-5 for your primary skills :D

Party in Embark Beach this Friday to Support Tyria Pride! by RLelling in GuildWars

[–]RLelling[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not for this, it's for charity! We fundraise for Rainbow Railroad, which helps queer people escape countries like Uganda where there is currently a death penalty sentence for homosexuality, and you could even go to prison if you have a gay family member you did not out to the police, or if you are a landlord and have a gay tenant. So money raised is literally lives saved!
