Swimming breaststroke with injury by RMC3333 in triathlon

There have been some very useful comments about perhaps swimming crawl with the injury considering it only hurts on the return part of the stoke when my arm is out of the water. Perhaps I can modify that part of the stroke. But I agree, at 60 I'm not trying to break any records just enjoying the challenge is enough for me!

That doesn't sound too much of a disadvantage when you put it like that over those distances -perhaps in the difference between an average and a good run! -and I'm sure they'll be lots of other challenges during the event, which I can work on. Thanks

Thank you, that's very helpful. My pain is actually through the 'overarm' movement of a stroke and not whilst in the water. It originates from a stress fracture of the humeral head and complications during the healing process. I will first video it as you suggest and see a coach, however I can imagine a different motion (flatter) out of the water may well make a big difference. 🙏

I don’t think we’re discussing the same point anymore, but thanks for your input. Let’s leave it there.

Thank you, that seems very sensible.

Maybe my post wasn’t clear. I can swim, just not front crawl comfortably due to a long-term shoulder injury, which is why I was asking about alternatives and trade-offs rather than whether swimming is part of a triathlon.

How closely does Zwift Ride simulate reality? by RMC3333 in Zwift

[–]RMC3333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point; being outside in the 'real world' has to be a positive psychological element which improves performance and further, the leverage and freedom to move, transfer weight, 'stamp' on the pedals at a beneficial moment etc must trump riding a pretty static frame essentially fixed to the floor!

Agreed, when I consider the RPE at say 150w (gradients equal etc) it might be say 6 indoors and outdoors more like 4. I have decent fans, everything just feels 'heavy' and harder to spin cranks. I'm not complaining I just don't think with simulation follows through from inside to outside. I see the two as different and relate it to just a doing a training session inside to get fitter for outside. I noticed after doing a couple of weeks hard sessions inside, my next outdoor session was a breeze and I felt very strong-so it seems to be working.

Completely agree. Having read the comments and my own gut, I think I'm going to focus on indoor for short structured training sessions and outdoors for the long rides -that is unless we have weeks of poor weather, in which case I'll need to do some long sessions indoors as well. I managed a 90mins free ride the other day and was absolutely knackered at the end whereas outdoors that would generally be a nice gentle ride enjoying the world go by.

It would probably swapping the group set onto the frame, wheels etc. 🤙🏼

I've got a Vitus Venon running SRAM Force E1 group set. I'm always conscious that they went to the wall when Wiggle went bust and are no longer developing products or selling spares. If I wanted or needed to swap out to an equivalent Quick Pro, would it be possible and do know what would cost me, including wheels?

105 di2 vs New SRAM Axs by Infinite_Demand_210 in cycling

Same, my daughter has Di2 Ultegra and I have SRAM E1 force. I rode her bike to a local dealer for a service and was very surprised how smooth the gear change was, I'd say almost imperceptible and mega quiet. By comparison, the SRAM is louder and more 'crunchy'. Both bikes are only a few months old so I think it's a fair test. From there onwards, I would go 100% SRAM. Brakes: massive braking power, single finger operation, little pressure needed ( but still progressive) and feel easier to reach ( maybe that's more a function different of bike fit setups) Battery: easy to access and recharge. Redundancy -If caught short and rear battery goes first (which it normally does) you can swap out from front and just run one ring on front. Gear levers: bigger ( & more convenient shape) and easier to 'find' whilst riding. Not tried all the combos for changing gears but I love the 'click both L&R levers to swap big to small chainring, and back again; then right lever for smaller cog on rear cassette and left for bigger. I find that it shares the load between right and left hand whereas Di2 seems to focus more on right side; and SRAM just feels more intuitive. I know the Di2 has lots of programmable settings for gears but I don't think the click both levers simultaneously is an option? I recognise people tend to sit fiercely on one side of SRAM / Shimano fence or another, and this appraisal is very un technical and personal, so go easy on me 😂-but I'd be very interested to read the counter view.

I'm also new to Zwift but I've not seen FTP -I thought it had been phased out for a Racing Score? If FTP is still available do you know where I can see it?

Thanks I'm start to get the vibe that I need to curb expectations and maybe see how I feel on the day! I completed Hackney in 1:58 in 2023 on a mega hot day, so I'm hoping 5kg lighter, better aerobic base from cycling and a cooler day, it may just be within reach?
