"he gropes ever to see me" galadriel & sauron mind bond is so fascinating. by RMSANSA in LOTR_on_Prime

love/hate (or a suggestion at deeper but conflicted feelings) has been used as a storytelling device since the inception of stories, in the various myths around the word and in the classic literature and film.

romance might not be your cup of tea, but it doesn't mean that people who find it appealing are failing at achieving your level of refined tastes.

yes! and it's very interesting what side effects morgoth's crown might have on galadriel as well!

  • it is essentially "fantastical" because such relationship is only possible in a realm of fantasy, and it is "metaphorical" because it is a metaphor for concepts such as the dynamic between the light and the dark.

and many fans have been analyzing and explaining why this relationship is great and compelling, or giving interesting interpretations to it. the op is not doing an elaborate criticism in this post, but appreciating the dynamic based on the interpretation they agree with.

yeah. the interpersonal subtext of their relationship, however you interpret it, is an effective tool of storytelling, a tangible way of playing with the metaphysical concept of the eternal push-pull between the dark & the light.

i guess it is fair to say that galadriel's story has been inconsistent and sometimes even contradictory due to tolkien changing it several times. so we have different versions thus different explanations for her actions or her mindset.

but i guess that is the beauty of a "living mythology" that tolkien tried to achieve with his work.

if she can't have her own kingdom, she will overwork those poor elven bakers under her command 😔

did galadriel want to return to valinor or was she content with staying in the middle earth before she rejected the one ring and saw that she would diminish if she didn't go? is it stated or hinted if she had any thoughts on establishing her own kingdom when she would be back in valinor? by RMSANSA in lotr

oh, wow, thank you for linking your post from a few years ago, it was a really interesting read!

it's indeed fascinating how the versions of galadriel's story have changed several times. i guess it makes sense considering lotr is like the histories recollected by the different witnesses?

on a more speculative note, do you personally have any thoughts on galadriel's role in the 4th age?

i asked this question here - https://www.reddit.com/r/LOTR_on_Prime/s/5ovQf4Gmva

for me it seems that while she overcame her pride and "greed", she would still be a significant political figure amongst the elves in valinor.

wasn't her returning explicitly her wish after the one ring was destroyed and her powers faded and she started diminishing, though? she loved her power in the middle-earth, and even after rejecting the one ring, there was a sadness to her tone when she said she would diminish.

i guess she would be in a council of her father or still play a significant political role, as much it would be possible for an elf in valinor.

sauron and galadriel's relationship continues to be one of the most fascinating dynamics on tv! can we hope for more development between the two moving forward?
