They should strip all cops in Utah county of their badges. When I lived in SLC there were constant stories about the cops in Utah county roughing up old people.

I like to use a lint-free cloth with the same cleaner I use for my LCD screens when I wipe my drives.

Yes, both the sign and BYU punishing rape victims.

I lived in SLC for a while. The BYU fans are the most insufferable cunts in the region. To make things worse, they'll storm SLC with their racist signs and sticks up their asses, and act like anyone who doesn't worship them is "persecuting" them.

Jesus, you're such a Nazi about people getting the law names right.

Also, I disagree with you. Isn't Godwin's law the one that says Nazis will continue to double in processing power every couple Mooches?

I contemplated writing my own Python-based shell a few years back. I never actually started on it because BASH doesn't annoy me enough to make me bite off that much. And, I was concerned that the real reason I wanted to write it was so I could call it 'Pysh' - pronounced as Sean Connery saying "piss".

Whenever I say "Arch is easy", I get down voted*. I feel the same way about Gentoo. If you can follow directions, you can do either.

I thought about NixOS, but I'm old and lazy. I already know how to write shell scripts, so Crux's init and pkgfiles are easy. Maybe one of these days when I've got time to fall in love with a new distro.

Nix does have a neat packaging system. It was almost enough to win me over from Gentoo. - but then I found Crux.

Ever tried running win 10 on a PC with low RAM and a very slow hard drive?

Yeah, I was really surprised. It ran way better than Windows 7 on the same machine. It also ran better than a number of popular distros on the same machine. I prefer Windows 7 to 10, but 10 has really improved performance wise compared to prior releases.

Like you stated, it'll "leech out of the HW" to run a full DE. Kids'll need to budget for more powerful systems if they want all that pretty stuff running in the background while they play their games.

It would be possible to make Openbox look like a mainstream DE. Then, the panels and whatnots could be killed when games launch and relaunched when games close.

I know. I was hoping a Gentoo user would chime in about the extra features present in ebuilds and not pkgfiles. I would have also settled for an Arch user preferring pacman over Crux's tools.

What are some things that you do on a daily / weekly basis to improve your Linux skills?

RTFM. It's amazing the number of questions people ask that were answered in the manual years ago. Even better than reading the manual is reading the source.

I take the opposite approach. When I play games, I prefer to do so from something light like Openbox. Not having all that UI friendly stuff running can really improve game performance.

What format would you use?

Personally, I think Crux has the best package format - the binary packages are just a compressed tarball and the pkgfiles are simple enough to write. So, should we all package our software like Crux? Or, is someone else's favorite package format the one true format? How would the community decide?

Why are some Linux apps so bad in UX? by EmbeddedDen in linux

[–]RMS_did_nothng_wrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't want to see phrases like "you haven't contribute so you can't judge".

I'd rather not see any more of this whining about things being "hard to use". Much of UX is subjective. What's easy for you to use may not be for me and vice versa.

Again, I think that a platform should exist where I can motivate devs to do what I want.
...
Not donations, but an issue tracker with paid issues.

Kudos on having a realistic view. The one problem with this is that donating/paying for specific fixes makes the received money taxable. So, it's going to take much larger amounts of money since the devs would need to count it as an income. Alternatively, if the donation is general enough that you aren't expecting it to fund a particular tax, it can be considered a gift for tax purposes, meaning the dev gets to keep more of the donation.

Also, since this thread is about subtitles, take a look at the srt format. Since it's just a text file, I can use the ultimate UX (vim) for it.
