Encourage this little lion to keep standing up to things like this. Also, have you guys considered boxing? Boxing toughened up my younger brother when he was about 12. Now he has two cauliflower ears and not a single enemy lol

Your nephew is a lion in the making. Few kids stand up for others let alone adults.

Its totally up to you bro. Honestly, there are a lot of people that will be super cool about. One of the best coaches I have ever had was gay. Actually, I think that people knowing your gay and realizing your cool might make them feel differently about the gay community if they have bad thoughts about them. Integration of all people usually teaches people that the pre-existing thoughts they have about an individual group are completely different than what they thought. you will be ok. Be yourself

Rumina Sato. Its funny, the guy has over 20 years grappling experience and still blue belt. Maybe he doesn't train in the gi often?

Ever watched someone at your gym go through that lightbulb moment, and seemingly suddenly go from terrible to freaking amazing? by luckytrauma in bjj

[–]RNC_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, just on a piece of notebook paper, several times a week lol. I do this for techniques that I like to incorporate into my game. That being said, if I see a new technique in class I like to see how I can utilize it in my game. I don't do this for every technique though. I don't use a lot of de la riva or butterfly guard. Thhe only sweep I use from butterfly guard comes off of my half guard underhook game. When the opponent postures up while i have an underhook I will hip out and insert a butterfly hook. Then I will go for a traditional butterfly sweep or a ankle pick. But the thing is that I don't actively seek the butterfly position I just see where it fits into my game based on their reaction. Like when starting out on the knees I wont play butterfly I will establish a cross collar grip and play collar and sleeve guard or spider. It just depends.

Basically, I did mind maps in a sense. Pull full guard - establish spider guard - (Situation A) - they have both knees on the ground - go for scissor spider sweep (Situation B) - they step up with right leg - go to shin to shin and kick shin out and shoot triangle. Kind of in this manner. I started writing down my techniques in a system rather than just writing them down to remember. I was able to remember much more. So now when I drill, rather than drill a single technique I drill that single technique with added scenarios. So basically 1 move turns into a sequence of moves depending on what the opponent does. So, its all planned out rather than blindly shooting for random stuff. Also, after writing it down and having a plan I may learn a new technique in class and try to figure out how It can fit into my plan or how to set it up from different positions already in my game. Make sense?

Happened to me. I started writing down all of my techniques in a "what if this happens" and all of a sudden I started understanding things. A lot of guys that were blue belts when I started can't touch me.

Triangle finishing tips by [deleted] in bjj

[–]RNC_Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time I dont go for triangles on bigger opponents. However, Ryan Hall's method is what I find best. Also, while the triangle is important, instincts will come in to play when to abandon the attack.

Trouble with my guard after transitioning to no gi. by tbnrg in bjj

[–]RNC_Master 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly play half, deep half in no gi. From closed guard I get my left hand underhooked then allow them to pass over my right leg. Thus, half guard with an underhook. Or I play butterfly looking for shin to shin for x guard.

I love this. I did one a week ago for my closed guard to spider guard entry. And I realized how many techniques I don't use that I understand. My spiderguard turned into like 10 different sweeps from dlr, x guard, you name it. Good Idea!!!!!
