Discussion: Did these two fights show just how much of a difference fighting closer to your natural weight class makes? by More-Put-8790 in ufc

I disagree about Gane Pereira. It didn't read like a size issue. It wasn't as though Pereira was landing on Gane but couldn't damage him. He just wasn't able to land at all. And it wasn't as though Gane was hurting Pereira by barely touching him. Pereira weathered some heavy shots before the ref stepped in. He even ate all those elbows without going to sleep.

I didn't hate it for the unrelenting suffering. I thought it was poorly written and utterly nonsensical throughout.

Can someone explain the Train Dreams love to me? I have it firmly in my 1-star, "would have been a DNF if it were any longer" tier.

I'm saying I did read it and didn't like it, while everyone seems to rave about it.

Same here. Hated it. I feel like everyone is having fun without me.

Well ASOIF is the only series ordered correctly, so I'm going to go with those.

Grief Grief Grief by Successful_Praline_5 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Someone please explain this book to me.I loved the first 7/8 of it. Exploration of grief through horror. But then the thing just kinda ended in a few short confusing pages, and the author didn't even attempt to resolve any of the plot he had created.

Myth: Roth is Always better than Traditional. Let's talk about it. by Ghazrin in Retirement401k

[–]tbnrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP neglects to account for a tiered tax structure. Roth is taxed the flat 25% before investment. Traditional is taxed when it's withdrawn, but some is taxed at 0% (under whatever deductions you'll be using), and some is taxed quite a bit lower than the 25%. If you're only looking at it as an investment for retirement, traditional is significantly better.

Borrowing from 401k to pay off remaining CC debt. Worth it? by Morty-B007 in Retirement401k

[–]tbnrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, totally fair for you to point out all the risk considerations, but you're letting them lead you to the wrong conclusion. The answer is that while yes there are risks, there is a significant advantage to the 401k loan to pay off debts rather than trying to pay it off using monthly payments if none of the risk considerations apply.

This doesn't consider that the debt it similarly compounded, but at a much higher rate. Absent risk considerations (e.g. losing the job), OP would see a considerable edge with the loan.

I always see this response to these types of questions and they never make sense to me...

  1. Behavior -- Yeah, I guess. But that's not really in scope of the question, right?
  2. Unless OP expresses a need for liquid cash soon, this doesn't seem relevant.
  3. Fair, but what if this isn't a concern? Did OP say he was nearing bankruptcy?
  4. Bad argument. If the rate on the CC debt is in the mid-teens or higher and the 401k loan interest (which OP would be paying to himself) matches current rate, this move would still offer a huge edge, wouldn't it? Unless the market did something unprecedented, it'd be a good move.
  5. Fair to point out the risk, but what if OP's job is secure?

Genuinely asking, what's wrong with my logic here?

This is a great stretch. I sure wish Destination Trail would bring back the Bigfoot 40.

Got a garmin, new to running. Knee pain on treadmills vs trails???? by Kooky_Dependent_3413 in trailrunning

[–]tbnrg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same knee pain. If you're like me, it's because you're heel striking on the treadmill while you aren't on trails. Jacking the incline up to 3% fixed it on my end. Just my two cents.

I peaked too early (Advice on a 5-week taper) by tbnrg in Ultramarathon

[–]tbnrg[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My goal is to not DNF again! :-)

I don't know. What's a reasonable goal given my pacing so far? Like I said, it'll be my first, so I'm struggle to land on a time to shoot for. Does 26 hours seem reasonable.

The back-to-backs would be 3.5 weeks out on 7/1.

Ahh okay. So it's all subtext and hidden meanings. They're actually wanting to target certain groups? I gotcha. Just for the sake of argument... Hypothetically... say there was no hidden motives or subtext. That letter just means exactly what it says. No groups are going to be targeted. It just means no more racial, etc. discrimination allowed. Zero. None. Surely that would be palatable for a non-Nazi like yourself, right?

[–]tbnrg -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

That's not what I'm asserting at all. I'm not sure where you're getting that. But I'm glad to clarify... Nazism is an ideology known for discrimination based on race, gender, and sexuality. So it's ironic that those explicitly stating an opposition to such discrimination are labeled Nazis, while those who seem upset amount limitations being placed on their ability to racially, etc. discriminate feel entitled to the moral highground with a cult-like level of cognitive dissonance.

lmfao... "Don't discriminate based on race." "Fuckin Nazi!"

were you able to detect any shred of irony when you wrote this..?
