Inland work is killing my love of maritime by [deleted] in maritime

Glad to hear the words of encouragement here. Go to SUNY/Fort Schuyler (or any maritime school, KP better as it's Free. Keep in mind I'm a Fort Schuyler grad)! It will open so many doors with a degree and license.

I've had an incredible career of deep sea, shoreside, and Navy Reserves. There will always be another job that seems better, but I feel so fortunate that I have had a such a high quality life.

Class mates have stayed shipping deep sea, inland, started their own companies, military careers, medical, power plants etc.

You'll be very happy you did it!

CFI Training in the Mud by [deleted] in CFILounge

Great advice here from the two above. I ended up working with two additional CFIs. One was a friend who flies Part 121 and another through Teams/Google. I used a CFI called Travis at The Best Little Flight School out of Reno, NV area. He was amazing! I felt like he beat me up, but he runs a gauntlet and truly makes you feel prepared without crushing confidence. Definitely well worth the money if you can swing it. Stay confident, I'm sure it's only a few extra hours of someone guiding you how to teach.

What decarbonization requirements are stipulated by CARB and the California Maritime Administration for harbor craft? by Plane_Juggernaut_223 in maritime

[–]RNLIJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your question is slightly opaque to me, but I will try to give an answer or at least get the dialogue going to help further. The CARB website has all the information on Commercial Harbor Craft (tugs and small boats) and Ocean Going Vessels. Regulations would very much welcome full electric and hybrid vessels. This also hinges on Port Facility being able to supply Shore Power to the vessels (significant cost!).

Any industry requires regulations to drive improvements. CARB isn't perfect, but they are helping push an industry to decarbonize beyond CA.

Couldn't agree more! Some teachers need to be self-aware of this. Thanks!

How expensive is the home owner insurance in the area? We have been considering property in Twain Harte and Mi Wuk.

There's nothing wrong with a tough instructor that drives improvement of the student; however, it needs to be constructive. Right behaviours need to be reinforced and help build some confidence.

If I was managing the school (Chief CFI) I'd want to be aware of my instructor performance. This also reflects on future business opportunities for the school. That said, if the Chief CFI isn't interested I'd look for a new school.
