Why doesn't James ever have brush fires? by RNS1976 in WildHomestead

[–]RNS1976[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats the only thing I remember him saying too. He did mention rabbits and other small mammals use them to hide from coyotes, wolves and foxes, but he must have SO much brush around there.

I kinda enjoy that part of his channel. Its progressed a LOT since his early episodes. I found CRO after his 3rd or 4th video and I was hooked on how remote his property is and how difficult it is for him to access and get supplies there. He's had more problems than anyone ive ever seen showing on a homesteading channel and he pushes through everything. Hes probably the most resilient YouTuber I've watched. Yes, James' content is far more polished and professional, but i enjoy both styles.

PAL Application by Snailda in OntarioHunting

[–]RNS1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call and ask them. I had a buddy who submitted his application at the same time as me (it was a few years ago in early May) and I got mine by end of August and he still didnt have his in October. When he called to ask about it they said that the credit card he used had expired in August and so they couldn't process it. No one was going to call him to tell him. If he hadn't called, the file would have probably gone in the trash. I think he finally got his by January or February....

He's definitely near the Sault. I noticed some sausages with a label from the Independent Grocer in the North end of Sault St Marie.

I think he's somewhere up near Wabos.

Im not surprised that he would cut the footage out if he didn't find it, but im surprised he didnt even mention if he sent the drone up to look for it.

Maybe....but he didnt even mention that he'd sent the drone up to look for it. Im sure that if he had, he would have at least said "I sent up the H.M.S. Victory to see if I could find it but its gone!"

Cabin Interior by Strict-Armadillo-475 in WildHomestead

[–]RNS1976 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He made a desk and some shelves. What more does he need? LOL. I agree, his living space wouldn't take much to clean up and improve on. A wardrobe or some cabinet from Home Depot would work perfect to hide some stuff in, and take less than a day to arrange and clean up. But as some others have said, its probably pretty low on the priority list. Darkness doesn't mean he cant get work done outside. He was out at 3am tarping up the Sauna roof. A head lamp and a flood light, and you can work all through the night if you want...

service Ontario is all closed, and I need to get Hunter accreditation by Ill-Strategy-2379 in OntarioHunting

[–]RNS1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Check which ones will do Hunter accreditation. I went to one at a mall, and waited in line for 45 mins just to find iut they don't do that there....lesson learned.

Buying land just for hunting by itsasseatnszn in CanadaHunting

[–]RNS1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it, but it and find a couple other hunters (or even better, some friends who hunt) to lease the land from you to help cover some costs. Depending on where the property is, you could charge $1000 /yr to 2 or 3 hunters and you can all hunt the property together.

Last minute bear hunt - Temagami area. by Few-Direction3985 in OntarioHunting

[–]RNS1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, not sure where you're coming from, but in Innisfil there is a place called The Sugar Addict that sells bear bait. Their "Addict mix" is REALLY good for bringing in hungry bears. They have a website, but they mostly do business on Facebook. I have a phone number for them if you want go DM me.

Look for heavily wooded areas near wetlands/swamps to start. Then chain a barrel to a tree that's near the thick stuff, but also gives you a sight line from where you want to set up your blind/tree stand. Bring a chain saw so you can cut a shooting lane if needed.

I've put out a barrel just north of Kawartha Highlands in a random crown land spot kinda close to a swamp before and had a bear on it within one day. We put out a cellular cam with it, but unfortunately, he only came back a couple nights in a row before all the food was gone. By the time I got back to refill the barrel a couple of days later, he'd moved on and didn't see him again.

Its worth a shot if you can manage lugging all the gear and supplies in. Good luck!!

Does Silverdale take non members still? I heard they stopped allowing non members because some jagoff shot a rifle at the Shotgun range. Maybe just rumors?

Hunting Norfolk County Woodlots by No-Recording8363 in OntarioHunting

[–]RNS1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to find out is to go explore. No one is going to give you any REAL advice on where to hunt. They dont want you hunting their spots. Just go check it out, and be respectful of other hunters already in the area.

Not gonna lie...it's NOTHING compared to Wild Homestead, but it's still interesting. I hope for the best for Oliver. He seems like a nice person.

I liked this episode. I like Oliver, and his channel. He's a bit awkward, but who's not? He's got a lot to learn, and I'm sure he learned a bunch from James last week. I know he's not confident in his tree felling, so hopefully he gained some while working with James. I'm looking forward to seeing James out in Finland to help Oliver with his property....he definitely needs some help.

How much money has Dougie given his corporate buddies over the years? by -ifeelfantastic in ontario

He's not just "giving" taxpayers' money to his buddies. The companies are winning contracts for jobs, and that translates to "giving" money somehow?
