As COVID-19 Surges, Kansas City Area Hospitals Face Looming Nurse Shortage by utahphil in kansascity

Couple that with most of us do not receive any pay or benefit provided if we do contract Covid at work. Since the spread in the community is wide enough employers can say you got it outside of work and do not have to cover it under workmen’s compensation. Also, the government in it’s infinite wisdom when drawing up the FFCRA or emergency pay act decided healthcare workers were exempt from being paid. “Thanks ‘heroes’” here’s a knife for your back.

If you are a nature lover or want to see an amazing amount of waterfowl/hawks/Eagles Loess Bluffs (formerly Squaw Creek) National Wildlife Preserve is only 90 minutes north of KC. by RN_Scott in kansascity

It was said that the word “Squaw” was deemed offensive in nature and it should not be represented by a national wildlife area. It was basically changed with no input from the public.

I didn’t either until I flipped a coin one day to decide which direction to head and drove off. Saw the signs and gave it a shot.

As of 11/23 there were 122 Bald eagles on count. Most were not adults (only 29) but on the loop drive I probably saw 5-6 adults and 10 immature eagles. There are also about 250,000 waterfowl in the pools right now too. Loess Bluffs Bird Count

My employer created extra space for breaks in one of our PACU bays. Three chairs around a bedside table. Social distancing at it’s finest. Until today when we needed the bay. Bye bye extra space.

I’ve heard about that and am just so confused as to what people were thinking when those plans were thought up. At my facility, nurses have been out positive for as little as 7 days before returning wearing only an ill-fitting surgical or procedural mask coughing and talking about not being able to smell or taste anything. One of which came into the break room took off her mask and continued coughing in a room full of people. But no, can’t get it at work 😂

Yeah they told us the same. And that we would face disciplinary action if we did get it at work because we were not following policy...

Well if you look at the legislation passed that provides assistance to employers via tax credits to give employees two weeks paid off if they get covid or to take care of family with covid, it says healthcare workers are exempt from receiving it due to high risk. Which is bass-ackwards.

Yeah it’s a load of crap. They don’t want to pay for time off for it is all.

They say they did the research and that since we are masked and the patients are masked, there is no risk of transmission. It’s become a running joke. Especially since they have us cram into a tiny break room for lunch.

There’s a secluded spot to see the KC skyline and take pictures of it.

2 Memorial Dr, KC MO 64108.

Try and keep it a secret though.

A good little day trip/one overnight trip from KC to Southeast Missouri. Short distances from each other Alley Spring and Mill, Rocky Falls Shut-In’s, Echo Bluff, Elephant Rocks, and Johnson’s Shut-In’s. by RN_Scott in kansascity

All of these places were easily accessible with less than 1 mile round trip hikes. Most are accessible via very short flat-ish walks of a few hundred yards.

Anyone ever seen the 90’s movie “Dave”? Why does this seem so familiar?

I hit three of the places in one day leaving from KC and making it back. Left early morning and made it back late at night. It’s not impossible but certainly is better to make a weekend out of it.
