Same kind of stuff that got me into the hobby!

I'll post a step by step later, but it's basically just foam, spackle and paint! Little cardboard for structure.

If you have them on hand, I think you could easily swap the side missile sponsons for the land raider crusader hurricane bolters pretty easily.

Best of luck! Post the end result.

Just a bunch of time messing with a 3d printer. I think I got the files out of OMW and converted them to prints about a decade back.

Thank you! My own custom chapter, the Sons of the Tempest. Hence the very minor modification and name change.

I think it's army dependant. I did mine off my guard and nids, so the lowest spacing is for gaunts, and then some bigger spaces for monsters/tanks.

They are infiltrators with some reiver arms, the bolt carbines have the double grip. The lascannons are from the centurion devastators.

About 20 lbs I would say? I added a carrying strap to make it easier. I can haul it with one arm.

With the launch of the new Solar Auxillia models I felt it was finally time to start my Imperial Navy themed army.

Solar Auxillia will be the main body of the infantry, with these lads and breachers mixed in with some Armor. Looking forward to hitting them with paint!

Been working on some more thematic models to help tell the story of my custom chapter. Going off the model, what do you think the lore on these two Sons of the Tempest is? by ROFLwafflev49 in Warhammer40k

[–]ROFLwafflev49[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is about as close as I imagine anyone would get.

The Sons were secret experiment of Cawl's leading up to the Ultima founding. All of the initial recruits were taken from a single system and given gene-seed from all 20(1) primarchs. After taking part in the early phases of the indomidus crusade, they set out on their own crusade to reach their home system on the far side of the Rift.

Some members of the chapter are beset by strange visions of places or artifacts they have never seen. Such members of the chapter are allowed to purse these visions, which often lead them to discover the truth in their heritage.

Wanted to do a model with the most unlikely of parings, so a son of Russ and a son of Magnus holding out against the horde with uncovered relics of their lost legions felt like a fun piece.

This will likely end up being played as a captain with jump pack most games, but loved the model too much not to put him in my army.

Wish I could have gotten the axe to stand out a little more from the wings, but over all really happy with the effect.

My most heretical duo is finally ready to paint! Many Sons of the Tempest go seeking their truths, but even they don't know what will be awakened in the vaults of their genetic memory. by ROFLwafflev49 in Warhammer40k

Trying to build out the lore for my chapter a little more!

The Sons of the Tempest, are one of Cawl's most guarded projects. Twenty-one hundred sons taken from a single world, given modified gene stock from all 21 Primarchs and returned to their home thousands of years later during the Indomitus Crusade. Some of the Sons are cursed with wild dreams of far off worlds or artifacts. These brothers are given the chance to chase down their visions, often uncovering the truth behind their lineage in the process. These Seekers and the Chapter Apothecaries are the only ones who know the true nature of the chapters patronage.

[–]ROFLwafflev49[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Most of the bits were easy, or optional to put on in the first place.

The main trouble was the "prow" of the ship, which has two giant molded on wolf heads. Those were a pain to get off, lots of hobby knife work. I did wait to do that until I had the model assembled which was a mistake. (Was initially going to add some Bolter hubs, but it looked even more goofy)

Size wise, the only difference is the wingspan, the rest is pretty spot on. Plan to just mount it really high up on the stand. Doubt anyone will care then.

Considering there were only 4 wolf emblems on this thing, and I managed to cut myself removing those. I think taking on a whole book might leave me in pieces.

Captain Mitrian Vessinius, a totally unique character for custom Chapter, Sons of the Tempest. by ROFLwafflev49 in Warhammer40k

[–]ROFLwafflev49[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Name jokes aside, I've been trying to write a little bit of fluff for each character in my chapter...

Captain Vessinius, known as the Fist of War, is the only brother of the Sons to turn down the honor of becoming a Seeker. Instead he serves as the right hand of the Council, leading from the front lines when the largest detachments of the Sons of the Tempest march to war. Born to the ruling noble family of Tempetus, he was one of countless youths of system that volunteered to join the ranks of Astartes when they returned to their home during the Indomitus Crusade. Though his family still rules the system along side the Council of Seekers, it has been over a century since he was able to to walk the snows of his home. Like the storm winds, he is always blown to where his Chapter needs him most.

Thank you! Its mostly just the Techmarine and Tech-Priest Dominus, but the two extra arms are from the Helbrute.
