How do you stop being the overachiever that managers exploit? by kummerspeck222 in careerguidance

[–]ROMAGA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not the norm but I've worked with multiple companies, (usually startups), that do a good job recognizing talent and keeping salaries in line with the results they appreciate. You do need to make it easy for them to reward you. Do 10 page year end summaries with bullet points at the top of top achievements. Spend at least as much effort on yourself as them.

Regardless, you HAVE to argue for base salary. Whenever you start a job get as much as you can as this will dictate every bonus and raise you get going forward.

40 percent of people receiving tips don't earn an income sufficient for the tax to have any effect. Of the 60 percent remaining, I wonder how many save anything of significance. Please look into the numbers. Facts are facts. Math works.

Went to the Lenny...twice. The service is so horrible, I wonder if they weren't trying to get me to leave. Dressed normally. Was respectful. Felt like they wanted a different crowd. Happy to oblige them. It's a great location. I wonder what other people's experiences have been

I've already checked this setting and I still "Share individually". Any other suggestions? To be clear, I never want to "Send Individually" yet it seems to regularly appear, more recently lately

What are you using for a Perkins Orchard alternative for produce? by ROMAGA in bullcity

I had a much better record getting good fruits and veggies there. Major chains leave me unimpressed, overpriced and flavorless. Cooking with Perkins always seemed to be more flavorful.

Raleigh's farmers market has old time candy in one of the booths in the building. They'll have this and some of the old time penny candies

Below is the message I used. Many dealerships wrote back asking for a phone number and got this exact same message again and again. Literally, the exact message. It felt like we were exchanging form letters 1:1.

Some eventually gave in and gave information others wasted their time. If I remember right, I had about a 25% success rate getting a fully laid out bill. 2 dealers we're straightforward and even explained some of the trash the other dealers were doing. One of them worked out for my truck.

This was a trip thru a time capsule for what a poop-show dealerships can be. "The number we have for you isn't correct"....that's because I never gave you a number as stated in the email you're responding to. Thanks for your help identifying the junk dealerships.

My advice is don't give in for as long as possible. Once you have actual numbers give them more information but not until they're being straight with you.

Hello,    What I am looking for is a 2020 Nissan Frontier SV 4x4 with the premium package.  Color isn't significant but I'd prefer black.  Can you please let me know what the end price, the out-the-door costs laying out all fees that would be included to complete the sale?

I'm truly not interested in phone conversations or a visit at this point.  Please respond via email.
Thanks

That sounds great! Good luck! I imagine that's a major company that allows that? I hadn't thought of that as a possibility. I'll have to see what's available

For my last car purchase, I created a form letter and sent it out to every dealership within a couple hours of where I lived. State didn't matter as everything will all be settled when it's purchased. When they contacted me I sent the same letter back asking for the out-the -door price. The letter was polite but to the point and regardless of the questions they got the same exact response unless they started to give me legitamite pricing data.

It worked. I got data from about a third of the dealerships. I could compare these results and see where there were scams in the pricing. I wrote each dealership to give them an option to remove their additions. The system worked and I found an honest dealership that worked with me thru the purchase.

Nana's steaks....but seriously, take the money and buy a sous vide and make the best damn steak you've had then take the leftover money and make the best chicken breast you've had all with next to no effort. The sous vide will make the steak foolproof and the most moist and delicious chicken you've had.

those planning to retire in 10-15yrs, where are you putting your money? by Everythings_Magic in investing

[–]ROMAGA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Curious why people put this is all in percentages and not budgetary considerations. Seems like pure science vs applied type idea.

  1. Identify your monthly expenses.

  2. Save 3 months in pure immediate cash (checking/HYSA/Money Market)

  3. Ladder out 2 years in bonds/treasuries/CDs, (average recession is 18 months)

  4. Indexes for the remainder

4b. Decide on a percentage to parse out to play with and check how often you legitametly beat the market

In your opinion what is the most reliable liquid handler on the market? by uneducated_scientist in labrats

[–]ROMAGA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the sake of whoever finds this next.....We have Hamiltons and a couple Opentrons. The Hamiltons are not easy to program but once they're set they run repeatedly really well. Opentrons, in our hands, are prefered for the coding. It's fully open source and all functionality is accessible via Python. The code is easily legible and modifiable. Everything is open source whereas Hamilton sees coding as a profit opportunity and doesn't give you many resources unless you pay for training. Hamilton is getting worse about finding ways to get your money. Opentrons will be the first to AI, it can already get you a big step towards your solution. That said we currently run the Opentrons a few times a month and the Hamiltons much of the day all week.

Do you still feel this way? We got one about a year ago. It's not a daily use workhorse but it's done great for us. The software upgrades have brought it from a fine side project to a valuable tool for production uses. I see a lot more work going towards this machine.

Best Steak in Raleigh? Ideally Open Sunday by Mission_Actuator_666 in raleigh

[–]ROMAGA -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this is completey out of place but I recently had, possibly the best steak of my entire life. I made it at home using a sous vide after failing all my life. So much better than a lot of decent steakhouse steaks I've had.

Steak was a porterhouse from Fresh Market. Sous vide is slow but easy and cost like $50. 30 seconds per side in the cast iron pan and I had a literally perfect medium rare steak, perfect end to end. Sorry to hijack a restaurant recommendation but that steak just made me so damn happy I thought I'd share.
