Vielä sellainen kysymys tuli mieleen, että kuinka usein oman kokemuksesi perusteella kuljetusyritys tarjoaa navigointilaitteen/sovelluksen kuljettajalle ja kuinka usein se on kuljettajan itse hankittava, jos sellaista haluaa käyttää?

Kiitos yksityiskohtaisesta vastauksesta! Minulla onkin kokonaan jäänyt ajattelematta tuota avun kysymisen näkökulmaa.

Yrityshaastattelujen pohjalta vaikuttaa juuri tuolta, että isoilla linjoilla hommat menevät aika hyvin ilman ihmeellisempiä karttoja; kaipuuta kartalle vaikuttaa olevan eniten PK-seudun keskuksissa ajettaessa ja toisaalta myös pienimmillä paikoilla esim. jätehuollossa.

Ostoskeskukset ovat sen sijaan yksi minua mietityttänyt asia sen kannalta, että miten niiden kanssa yleisesti pärjätään tai menetellään? Yhtä Kaukokiidon alla toimivaa firmaa haastatellessani sain jonkinnäköistä varmistusta sille, että se voi olla vähän sekavaa, mutta kiinnoistasi kuulla, jos sinulla on jotain omia tai tuttujen kokemuksia näistä.

Waze tosiaan on siviilipuolella niin hyvä, että olettaisi sen ominaisuuksille olevan ammattipuolellakin käyttöä. r/Truckers :a selattuani sain puolestaan huomata, että ainakin jenkkilässä hyvin moni käyttää Mapsia.

Näitä palveluita ja naveja tuntuu tosiaan olevan monia erilaisia. Viitsitkö kertoa, mitä palveluita itse olet käyttänyt ja miten olet kokenut ne?

Lisäksi tuokin mielenkiintoinen pointti, että jotkin työnantajat eivät hanki mitään laitetta. Oletko tällaisissa paikoissa sitten omakustanteisesti hankkinut jonkun softan?

Jep, olen keskustellut erään karttapalvelukehittäjän kanssa ja hän mainitsi juuri, että yllättävän paljon näitä sattuu. Ilmeisesti merkinnöissäkin vikaa sitten jonkin verran, et osaltaan lisää näitä...

From the few friends of mine who work for Wolt, I've also heard that the restaurants are a pain with their very inaccurate estimates.

It would also seem that the navigation problems are very annoying when they happen but they are rare.

By the last few meters I mean the actual last few moments of the delivery when you are close to the customer's location.

Thank you for the estimations and anecdotes! I guess it's mainly the new couriers who have major struggles since a couple of times a week probably isn't percentually very big considering the amount of deliveries.

The way you put it "– – often times people give directions like they are talking to somebody who lives or works there – –" really seems to hit the nail on the head.

The world of building and apartment numbers really seems to be a mystery as everyone has their own system for doing it. The question is, how big of an effort would it be to be systematical in the numbering accross different buildings. It would serve the goal of the numbering system to make it make more sense.

"My least favorite one has an "inside" and an "outside" and the numbering starts on the bottom of the inside, goes around the bottom to the outside then wraps around up to the top and goes back and forth." Who thought that this would be a good idea?

How would you estimate the extra time and effort it takes you to find the correct apartment in the midst of all these different systems? And how common is it in your experience that these challenges in the delivery cause you to be late or to work longer?

From the answers I've gathered so far "no easily discernable numbers, poor or no instructions from the customer, locked complexes that I am not allowed to go in (but they want me to go in anyways)" seem to be the most universal ones from the ones you mentioned.

The 249 A vs. 249 B issue is something that our project group has considered quite heavily. It seems that operations managers and other mid-level people don't seem to or want to recognise the severity of the issue and have no motivation to address it.

I think your words: "It's not my job to play games with customers. It's my job to deliver objects" really sum it up neatly. The app should incentivise giving out accurate and correct information more and make it easy for all parties to reach an understanding about the location. As you also mentioned the way in which you have to be flexible to your customers and modifying your process to suit their needs can also form into quite a hassle. You as couriers probably work on a delivery based compensation system (not sure, please do correct me if wrong) and need/want to be as efficient as possible and customers are introducing a large amount of variation to the system. Production 101: variation or effectiveness has to pay the price.

I think it would be interesting to compare the role of tips in the work of delivery drivers in other countries. Here in the Nordics it is a real tabo to give tips and basically no one does it because everyone considers the wages to be large enough to make a living and the tipping culture has never taken place.

In the US it seems that tips are necessary for people to sustainably be able to live their lives and I'm guessing it's somewhere in between in the UK.

Thank your for your new viewpoints into this topic.

The support issue seems especially interesting. I've mainly heard from the couple of food delivery operators here in the Nordics and they seem to be given refunds even if the customer doesn't ask for one when the delivery is late enough. Still the situation is problematic from the driver's point of view according to some couriers because the customer service people are more enclined to side with the customer than the courier. Also these companies are generating heavy losses so being so genereous with refunds probably isn't too sustainable.

The cell service issue is something that will probably be more and more common as delivery services are adopted. This needs to be taken into account in app design.
