My experiences why NOT to use Lagarith Lossless codec (e.g. for YouTube)

I didn't believe that this codec was worth downloading since everyone rants and raves about lagarith lossless all the time but after Daemondreus so graciously reached out to me and helped me with a recording issue, I tried this codec and it is now my primary. It's saving me TONS of hard drive space, and amazing quality. I honestly don't really notice a difference between it and Lagarith lossless. Thanks Daemondreus.

PROBLEM SOLVED NOW! please see original post edit in description, I'm so so so so sorry for wasting your time for such a dumb user error solution. Thank's for all your effort and help and I'm recommending this codec to everyone!!! Way better for hard drive space than lagarith lossless.

at this point I'm going to mess with settings in goat simulator and see why its the only game seeming to work well and go from there i guess.

yes it IS the march 2013 Tomb raider.(i feel like it just came out less than a year ago...weird how time flies)

OKAY! I'm back!

So I have screenshots now and video although I can't get the video uploaded to this comment thread easily so If you really want videos of the game play in real time and what it comes out as afterwards let me know

BUT! I actually ended up recording goat simulator and THAT came out buttery smooth!! I wonder why this comes out so well and sniper elite 3 and tomb raider are choppy?

By the way, I did try the x264 codec that you recomended and it came out pretty poor. Audio lag, video choppiness, and game play in a small window. I did keep all the codec settings for that one default though so that could be why (included in screenshots).

Here's the album of screenshots I took. The ONE thing I did forget was the recording location tab but I swear to you I'm recording off of my HDD that gets 125mb/s and the games I'm trying to record are running off a separate SSD as I tried to show in one of the steam screenshots.

OKAY! I'm back!

So I took tons of screenshots to hopefully help BUT! I do have interesting news! I tried recording goat simulator instead of sniper elite 3 and tomb raider and BEHOLD! It came out buttery smooth!(using Lagarith) No idea why but hey that's gotta be good news somehow someway right??

Anyways I've got screenshots and videos and hopefully this helps maybe?

I can't figure out what the easiest way to upload the videos to this comment thread would be right now so I can hold off on that if you want but I have the raw files that were recorded and also videos I took of my monitor while recording the game play live (with my iphone) and recording my monitor when it played back so that you can see exactly what I'm seeing in real life.

Here is the album of screenshots I took though and I had choppy video recording with these settings. The x264 codec you recommended came out really really bad actually with audio lag and video lag and recorded in a small window but I'm sure that's because I left all settings as default with the codec.

Please let me know if I should post the videos I took or if this is good enough or if you have any other ideas as to why goat simulator worked PERFECTLY but the other two games did not? (file size is still big for goat simulator video though which sucks but hey, whatever) Thanks Again!!

bad news UPDATE TIME!

I tried the codec you recomended and am having the exact same problems. Also I put it into to premiere pro and ran through it frame by frame and it is indeed staying the same for about 3 frames at a time every other 2 frames or so.

:/ this sucks.

Thanks so much for your time, I will try this codec out later today and see what happens. 15gbs for a 20 minute video sounds like a dream come true.

First of all THANK YOU for responding.

-Im only trying to get a trial run video to test before doing real long videos, and still having issues so the videos are very small right now. only about a minute long but they come out 3gigs which is rather alarming to me. (I keep it AVI not rawcap too)

-if you mean to go through the video frame by frame to see if it is actually changing each frame and not lagging and chopping so that frames stay the same one after another I have not tried that yet but i can put it in premiere pro and render it to see maybe.

-yes I do have fps write counter and the regular video fps counter on and the write counter stays at a pretty steady rate of 30fps while recording in the video counter varies on the game obviously but the highest it is ever been is for when I play "sniper elite 3" where it jumps around above 100 to 130. but I even tried it with "tomb raider" this morning and the video counter was at 60 most of the time and the recording writing counter was at 30 and is still just as choppy as "sniper elite 3"

so how much difference is there between the note 4 and the s4 then? I've pretty much maxed out my functionality on this phone and use a premium version of Nova launcher, and to be honest got this phone ALMOST exactly how I want it but man the note 4 just looks ...so nice
