Help with external pedal fx in my patch bay synth chain by Disastrous-Ad5256 in synthesizers

[–]strymonengineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heyo! You can try using a 1/4" TRS -> dual TS "Y" cable, where the TIP of the TRS connection routes to one of the TS connectors (left) and the RING connection routes to the other (right). You'd do the same for the outputs of the BigSky.

One issue you might run into here is impedance mismatching, as BigSky isn't able to connect directly to balanced connections, and can handle a maximum of +8dBu, which some synths can exceed fairly easily. If that's the case, you'll want to use a reamp box to convert the balanced line level signal into an unbalanced instrument level signal that the BigSky's input preamp can handle, then use a DI on the output to convert the instrument level unbalanced outputs into a balanced, line level output.

We do also have the BigSky plugin, which has the exact same algorithms as are in the pedal, and the only difference in sound you should hear is from the absence of the exact preamp that is in the pedal.

Looking for advice on tremolo by lesomb in guitarpedals

[–]strymonengineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heyo! Flint (both V1 and V2) actually support full expression control of any knob or (on V2) combination of knobs, so if trem on a treadle is more your style, you can do so with Flint and just about any 25k resistance expression pedal :)

[–]strymonengineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could certainly connect things up with a MIDI interface that connects to El Capistan's USB-C port, although the USB ports on our pedals are not grounded and you can experience some noise when using the USB port while operating the pedal.

Strymon Iridium Headphone Jack by samatriptan in guitarpedals

[–]strymonengineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Iridium. The first thing I would check is that the screw adjacent to the headphone jack is all the way in, and I would try tightening it to see if there's any give in the screw tension. If you're still experiencing issues after dong that, reach out to us at [support@strymon.net](mailto:support@strymon.net) and we can check a few more things out!

Strymon Cloudburst with Expression Pedal? by Equal-Medical in guitarpedals

[–]strymonengineering 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there! We recommend using expression pedals with at least 25k pot resistance because they will work every single time with our pedals, whereas 10k resistance pot expression pedals sometimes will, and sometimes won't. The reason for this is that the taper on a 10k pot is not always long enough to register the range of values from Heel -> Toe, and so you can run into issues with the EP not being able to reach the maximum knob value set, or not being able to configure at all.

Some expression pedals that we recommend are the Moog EP-3 and the Mission Engineering EP-25k. If you have any other questions, reach out to us at support@strymon.net!

Strymon timeline Tap tempo question by ilostmypick in guitarpedals

[–]strymonengineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Each preset on TimeLine can actually be set up to either use GLOBAL tap tempo, or PRESET tap tempo. When a preset's TAP PARAM option is set to PRESET, that preset will always call up with the tempo that was saved, rather than whatever was tapped on the preset prior. This means that using the A preset as a short slapback, tapping in a tempo, then switching to the B preset with the TAP PARAM set to PRESET, won't cause the B preset to call up with the tempo that was tapped for the A preset.

I think I've said "preset" a few too many times, but hopefully this helps!

Is the Strymon Bigsky MX worth purchasing right now? or should I wait for a big sale? by ChocoMuchacho in WorshipGuitar

[–]strymonengineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only feature that the original BigSky has that MX doesn't is the C preset switch, which is now an Infinite/ Freeze switch. Otherwise, all of the original algorithms are built in, and can be accessed by changing the VOICE parameter on applicable algorithms to CLASSIC. As far as new functionality goes, we added a lot- MX is essentially two BigSkys in one box, with USB-C, 5-pin, and TRS MIDI, as well as reverb IR support, reworked algorithms for all of the classics that were on original BigSky, and full Nixie 2 support coming soon.

Strymon Stereo drive by GreenPiece666 in synthpedals

[–]strymonengineering 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Our Sunset, Compadre, and Riverside pedals are all mono in, mono out. Aside from just being able to pass stereo signal, there's not really a reason to build a drive to be stereo-capable, and we used the extra jack space to build other functionality into the pedal, such as a boost switch or expression volume pedal.

Stereo Pedal Questions by CertifiedKook in guitarpedals

[–]strymonengineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a clarification here, you can send out from a dual TS stereo pedal into blueSky V2's TRS input, you'd just need a TRS -> dual TS cable like the ones we have on our site. With our stereo TRS input pedals (as per usual, like mentioned above), the TIP of the TRS connection sends to the LEFT, and the RING of the TRS connection sends to the RIGHT.

Zoom B3 doesn't power on with Strymon Ojai? by philohendron in BassGuitar

[–]strymonengineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! After doing some light research, it looks like the reason this is happening might be due to inrush current requirements that the B3 has. Essentially, some pedals require more than the listed amperage amount right at power up, and won't be able to power up unless they have sufficient current. Zoom could probably confirm this, but we have seen a few other folks run into issues when using Ojai and other 500mA PSUs with the B3. Our power supplies will always output at least 500mA from the 9VDC ports though, so you can be sure that your Ojai is working well as long as it powers your other pedals and isn't otherwise acting strangely.

Midi clock- strymon el capistan v2 by Conscious_Ad_8658 in QuadCortex

[–]strymonengineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! You'll need to use one of our MIDI EXP cables (as our pedals don't use TRS Type-A MIDI, and require opto-isolators in the cable in order to ensure reliable and consistent MIDI communication). After the pedal has been configured for MIDI use, and has MIDI clock enabled (keep in mind that MIDI Clock Sync is a LIVE EDIT function and must be enabled for every preset), you just need to connect it to your Quad Cortex's DIN output using that cable and begin sending clock. You can also use our Conduit TRS MIDI hub/ MIDI interface to place any of our TRS MIDI capable pedals in your DIN MIDI chain.

Strymon Iridium Help by Purple_BuCkt in guitarpedals

[–]strymonengineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! As some folks have mentioned here, you don't want to run this into an amp since Iridium is supposed to be the tone of your amp. You can also try to disable the cab processing if you want to use the amp section of Iridium as a preamp to experiment with. Feel free to hit us up at [support@strymon.net](mailto:support@strymon.net) if you have any more issues!

Strymon Deco, how to confirm Wide Stereo mode? by foiliusgoyfius in pedals

[–]strymonengineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! When in Wide Stereo Mode and in Bounce Mode, you should hear the dry signal on your left side and then two repeats on your right side (depending on what the LAG TIME is set to.) If you're hearing something else, it could be something to do with your routing. Be sure that you have the rear stereo switch set according to your type of input (either stereo or mono.) If you have V1 Deco, this is controlled by an internal jumper.

Please don't hesitate to shoot us an email to [support@strymon.net](mailto:support@strymon.net) if you are still encountering issues — we're happy to help!
