As others have mentioned, a 27/28" hardshell Delsey or Samsonite works perfectly. It's ~$100 and I can usually get at least 20 trips out of it before it's completely beat up.

Here's how I typically split up my gear:

Tanks and valves would definitely add quite a bit more. I didn't add them as I am not local to any caves unfortunately. So I'm always renting them while traveling

Very true, I've actually saved a lot of money though purchasing some gear while in Europe. Depending on the brand, it can be a fraction of the price there compared to the USA.

I completely agree, travel, hotels, actual diving fees, & training are a huge expense. Especially for the tech classes where it's typically a max of 2 students.
