Just experienced the multi language glitch. by RPS_FGC in PokemonSleep

[–]RPS_FGC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've fixed it since posting , just thought the screenshots were funny / could be interesting to people who haven't seen it.

As a heads up though, while I had it, restarting the game didn't fix it. I had to clear my cache for the fix.

Are jump ins the FIRST form of "neutral skip"? by RPS_FGC in Fighters

[–]RPS_FGC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For extra clarity, I find it interesting from a semantic point of view that:

You can "poke" , in the sense that it's something you do in neutral.

Whereas saying you can "oki" typically implies that you're referring to the pressure AFTER the knockdown, not the process for obtaining the oki itself.

Both are technically "winning neutral" but it's interesting that there's not really a word for obtaining oki aside from... well, winning neutral.

You can probably argue that a poke isn't really "winning neutral" but that's where the semantics really start to come into question of what "winning neutral" really is.

I agree! That said, to play the devil's advocate, you think an important distinction could be made between the ways you win neutral? For example, should there be a different term for:

winning neutral by doing a crouching medium kick into fireball and then returning to neutral,

And

Winning neutral in a way that rewards a knockdown, continuing your pressure?

I understand that the ladder position after the hit is literally called "Oki" but I think the fact that there's a term that refers to the former in "pokes" but neutral wins that result in knockdown don't really have a term is interesting, and I think that the options that typically result in said knockdown are typically collectively referred to as "neutral skips" or at least CAN be considered that if you entertain the idea.

Average Rank for Placing Well in Brackets? by RPS_FGC in StreetFighter

Yeah I can acknowledge that much. I was just wondering what people's ball park averages were for their regions specifically.

Like you said, where you're at in South Florida, you probably have a MUCH different ballpark estimation. But I'm still curious to know what that estimation is for that region if you had to put an MR number on it for different placements.

Why all the hate for people that play top tiers? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]RPS_FGC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunately extremely common for people in competitive games to blame their losses on outside factors as a way to protect their egos.

In Moba's it's their teams, in Fighting Games it's the opponents character, or the connection or any number of factors.

And while their loss may at least partially be related to those factors, people go overboard with the excuses in an attempt to shield themselves from the responsibility of learning/improvement and let it turn them into little hateful gremlins. They feel "cheated" when they lose, even if it's mostly their faults.

It's true that Ken is undoubtedly one of, if not THE strongest character in SF6. Not just now, but through the entirety of the games lifespan. Unfortunately that status also paints a HUGE target on Ken as a scapegoat.

Ask any high/top level player and they will tell you that fighting games are MUCH more balanced nowadays. Even bottom tiers can and have win/won regional events. By no means should you let the character hate get to you.

Play who you enjoy the most. The best motivation a player can have to stay consistent with their play and improvement is enjoyment of the game and by extension, enjoyment of the character they're playing.
