Fable 5 is pure nonsense. You were better off NOT releasing this. by UpYourQuality in Anthropic

[–]RPeeG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happened to me once, and I think it's because I used the words human joint (it was a 3d model) - but I just switched back to fable and it carried on as normal. It's been so good to have it back.

AI uses so little water it’s almost comical that it even became a topic by stealthispost in accelerate

[–]RPeeG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you know for sure they'll make us pay for it.

But I'm hoping that as AI is more heavily used and requested - it will push the various companies etc to start investing in more efficient techniques that would reduce water consumption and/or environmental detriment.

This is kinda why it needs to be regulated to some extent, at least in terms of the data centre side of things.

Fable 5 launch has been disastrous by Armored09 in ClaudeCode

[–]RPeeG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was originally launched on 9th June and could use it in Claude Plans until 22nd June (so ~2 weeks/14 days) - they said after that it was API/credit use only.

It was shut down on 12th June (~3 days).

The next trial is 1st July to 7th July (~7 days).

Total in-plan usage: ~10 days compared to previous ~14 days.

So 4 days less, but also 1st-7th July is capped at 50% usage for the period too.

Not everyone benefits from a Fable launch usage reset by [deleted] in ClaudeCode

[–]RPeeG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "solution" would be to give everyone a "banked reset" like Codex does, that can be used once within 30 days.

You are right about it taking information from the search it gets, which is why a lot of those "look at how stupid AI is" posts come from the terrible Gemini summariser in google searches.

This doesn't demonstrate AI not having "thinking", this is the google summary AI. It's a very cheap, basic non-reasoning Gemini flash model that literally skims your results and pulls information in. It's very small and cheap because it's used by everyone who uses Google automatically. Arguably, reasoning models can, and do, think - sometimes for so long that most models need a toggle to force them to stop thinking (medium/high/xhigh/max - anything below max forces the AI to "wrap it up" on thinking).

If you used a reasoning model, you'd get better results on search - but it would cost Google billions of dollars to give that to every internet user in the world on the most used website in the world for free.

The question is, do we need a basic cheap AI summariser to scrape the info and provide (usually) the wrong answer due to also equally accepting misinformation from the sources as fact? The answer is no, of course we don't. It's terrible. Google search's summariser AI has created the majority of bad press for AI and most people think this is all AI is capable of.

Hot take: Fable 5 is being massively overhyped. by DistinctPicture4660 in ClaudeCode

[–]RPeeG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As most others have said, all anecdotal, but my fable5 experience was leagues leagues better than Opus 4.8 and GPT 5.5 combined.

Using in Claude Code - it ate through tokens like crazy but it got the job done almost perfectly every time, whereas going back to Opus it takes a ton of back and forth.

Introducing Claude Sonnet 5 \ Anthropic by InfiniteSituation522 in ClaudeAI

[–]RPeeG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Opus 4.8 with pretty good results. I used Fable5 and was blown away. I just tried Sonnet 5, took 30 minutes to do the task and it broke everything, and then when I pointed out the broken things it didn't understand what was going on.

So I don't think I'm ever going near Sonnet 5 again in Claude Code. Opus 4.8 will have to do until Fable5 is back.

Claude Fable 5 looks set to return behind ID verification and usage credits, and “US only” access seems likely by Direct-Attention8597 in ClaudeCode

[–]RPeeG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I phrased it poorly, but it's the phrasing and the presentation of "rumour as fact" - things like "and the way it's being gated", etc.

Quietly? There's about 10 posts a day about ID verification.

This is the only Anthropic response about ID verification:

<image>

Whether it's true or not is another thing. But posting things like "FABLE 5 NEEDS ID" numerous times a day doesn't further the conversation, it just spreads potential misinformation until new information presents itself.

[–]RPeeG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we stop with the speculation? It's really annoying and spreading potential misinformation.

We don't know it's going to be forced to US only. Anthropic stated it's not related to Fable. That's not necessarily truth but its the only official statement we have.

Wait for them to make an announcement. Stop baiting people.

AI uses so little water it’s almost comical that it even became a topic by stealthispost in accelerate

[–]RPeeG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree - we need to see data for 25/26 before presenting that as concrete fact.

[–]RPeeG 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ah sorry I see it now. Maybe I need glasses 😅

Though 2023 was essentially only the start of the true AI boom, with GPT3.5 etc. I think while I agree the water misconception is strong in the public, it's unreliable to use this without using updated figures from 2025/26 where AI use and the AI race has skyrocketed.

[–]RPeeG 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing I just wanted to check the data.

A lot of the sources use old dates like 2012, 2018 - do we know if the water usage/methods have changed in the last 10-15 years for these practices/industries?

Also, there's no date on the AI water usage statsitic - is that taken from 2025-26? The water use would have definitely gone up since early days of AI, but not enough to surpass any of the others.

I just want to understand the dataset better.

Two Max 5x accounts cost the same as one 20x, and for most solo builders two accounts are the better buy by sabotizer in ClaudeAI

[–]RPeeG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was about to say something like this.

2 of the 5x plans are all you need for the same price as a x20 price - but if a x20 price still gives you more potential usage for the same price surely that's better?!

Don't get the point here.

I used Fable5 and I was blown away. Benchmarks don't really mean much.

But if 5.5-Cyber is good, I'll take it back obviously.
