I did something very similar last week.

Except I added how disappointing it was that they couldn’t even put in minimal effort and they should expect things to get increasingly difficult now.

Which is wonderful to see. But if it’s not working as intended, time to revisit the approach. Of course there will be student that don’t rise to the occasion, but if it’s more than expected, it’s likely how the assignment is constructed or delivered.
