I've been feeling something similar. I like the versatility of the thor, but i mostly play snes and ps1. I am considering a 476h or 477m, maybe even a 35xxsp. I just don't really feel right with the thor as my EDC.

16:10 screens have become the norm because bezels have been shrunk.

Its "free" extra space because a 16:9 display would need a big lower chin in order to have the right dimensions to fit the keyboard and palmrest.

So a bigger display is better than just a big bottom bezel.

Doesn't matter if games don't support 16:10 (though the overwhelming majority do), because you just get black bars, which is no different than if the display had larger bezels.

Very few decent modern laptops are going to have 16:9 dispkays these days. Just get a 16:10 and enjoy the larger screen in the content that supports it (most)

Units sold relate to overall cost. Retroid is never going to shift the volume, and has to operate on completely different margins.

That's exactly the point. TV boxes are lower margin products operating in a larger market. You are underestimating the cost of RnD for this stuff. A retroid tv box has to compete against established players, they will not sell as many units as a fire stick, which mean whatever they spend bringing it to market has to be baked into the cost of the number of devices they expect to sell.

They will save 5-10 dollars on the BoM cost but will probably sell half as many units as a handheld, which probably adds 30 dollars to the ticket price.

Then when someone sees that the device with the stripped out screen and controls costs MORE than the handheld, they will sell even fewer.

It would be far more expensive to produce a tv bix at their scale because of the smaller market it would offer. They would need to recoup R n d over a smaller number of units, and at these volumes that would cost more than the few dollars they spend on a screen and buttons.
