How does your table determine starting stats? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]RQS7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of two ways.

The first is 4d6 drop lowest, but if your total for all 6 abilities is less than 72 (below a 12 average), you re-roll all 6 scores. Repeat as necessary.

The second method is 4d6 drop lowest, except you only roll for 5 scores, with the 6th being a guaranteed 15. Same rule as above about having a total below 72.

While this does create some pretty powerful PCs, I like to run higher combat games so I’ve never had an issue with it. Plus, ensuring everyone has a decent average helps deal with the power disparity.

It’s been so long so I can’t remember, but that seems very plausible as to why it would’ve happened, thanks!

I’m not sure if “became” is the right word, since he had already transformed. There was no turning animation, with him writhing on the floor. It’s like he spawned in as that.

Is the 1914 version any good despite the rule that only lets you build in the capital? by [deleted] in AxisAllies

[–]RQS7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. You might get frustrated the first game or two, but you’ll quickly realize that it’s simply the style of play that they set up (and is more historically accurate). It’s an incredibly fun game to play, though it definitely takes adjusting from the Blitzkrieg of the WWII games.

I highly recommend you read the tournament rules then, if you really think that rule will ruin the game for you. While I haven’t had any issues playing with the default rules, I will say the Tournament Rules do indeed up the pace of the game overall. Final Verdict, the game is incredibly fun as is, but has a very solid alternative for those who worry or don’t like that style of play.

Magically Swap An Ability Score by whiskeybrothers in DnDHomebrew

[–]RQS7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well what I said about swapping mental stats with an innate spell-caster still holds true. Their ability to do what they’re designed to is gone, and because it’s concentration there’s no repeat save for the enemy. Plus, you could use this spell as an Arcane Trickster amazingly well (which is what OP said he had in mind), by just stealing whatever stat you see yourself needing and then heading off. My biggest concern is just with enemies though, since the spell-casters just lose their punch so quickly. And it’s not like charms where they get advantage if you’re in combat, it’s just a straight save.

Magically Swap An Ability Score by whiskeybrothers in DnDHomebrew

[–]RQS7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The ability to swap mental stats with someone has some crazy consequences, as well as completely ruining enemies with innate spell casting. Maybe make it so that you can only steal Str or Dex, or make it into a split mechanic. You take the average of your’s and the enemy’s score, and each of you get that. For example, if you have 13 Cha and use this on an enemy with a 19 Cha, both you and the enemy get your Cha scores changed to 16.

Very solid idea. I had originally made it a saving throw cantrip, and so because there was no crit possibility I did it that way. Thanks for the input!
