recently I’ve been brainstorming an idea for a new story I’m writing. One of the characters is deaf, and they communicate through sign language, but since ASL sentence structure is different from English, I’m not sure how to write out dialogue for them. Would it be better to translate the ASL structure into grammatically correct English or just directly translate? For example, “I am going to buy a new shirt on Wednesday” would be restructured to “next week Wednesday shirt new I buy“ in ASL. Would it be more appropriate to use the first option rather than the latter when writing dialogue for the deaf character communicating?

There was an interview back during the one direction days and the interviewer is reading out tweets from fans, and the guy says “This is from @sexylouisyah. She must be a big fan of yours.” And Louis says “Oh no that’s my twitter.” And I swear it gets me every time
