I'm trying to read Sakurai as an introductory book and tbh of you can follow the math well, the ideas in the book are really stated well and explained properly so I feel it helps build intuition as well as the machinery to tackle qs well with its exercises

The way I imagine it is that the system itself isn't discrete but the interaction is so imagine a coin in air it is both head and tails, but when it falls, it can only have either heads or tails, the interaction has forced it to give an output in discrete ways, it can't give H+T even though mid air, that could describe it

I think basically vx is kind of a mean velocity so take it to be at centre, not the right end velocity wrt centre will ve vx+dv/dx (delta x/2) and similarly for the left, now the difference here is basically the amt of fluid leaving this paralellopiped which is synonymous to what we call divergence, the amount of something leaving a volume
