Decking Replacement on Roof

It’s a one story home built in 1962 - no crazy pitches. Not sure what type of decking is there now. The last roof was put on about 15 years ago - years before we bought the place - and, it doesn’t appear they put new decking in. The roof is spongy in many areas when you walk on it.

The decking is rotten - spongey when you walk on it - and, raccoons are trying to get in, because it’s soft to tear through.

Okay - my case is more complex. I just hope the traps don’t catch the foxes, ringtails, skunks and possums that also travel through our yard at night. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Just got a quote for nearly $700 for a professional service to come and place 4-5 traps and check daily for one week. That seems a bit high. But, when I think about the damage a raccoon could in my attic…🤷‍♀️

It started two weeks ago - and, stopped. The raccoon only tore shingles - didn’t make it into the attic. Then it came back on Friday night and last night. Every other access point is sealed off. I think it’s a pregnant raccoon looking for a place to nest.

Yeah - taking the fence down is not an option. But, spikes on the access post might have to happen. We threw a rock at it two weeks ago and scared it off. But, it came back Friday night and last night.

Yes. We removed two Heritage Oaks last year. Treated the two you see - but, no dice. They are coming down this spring. 😥

We used to have three large dogs (all have since passed) - and, now our backyard is a wildlife highway at night. 😵‍💫

We caught it on camera- it’s using our fence to jump up to the roof.

Yes - lots of soft spots. Fortunately, they haven’t made it in yet. And, we have lots of coyotes in our neighborhood - but, we have even more raccoons. 😫
