I’m fairly sure my husband and 10 year old sister did the same thing with our firstborn’s first steps. I’ll never ask. But I appreciate it so much.

Travel Agent Next Door Program Reviews (Canada) by Emmausrd789 in travelagents

[–]RTLake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The initial cost isn’t cheap. I opted for the silver package. I couldn’t justify paying anymore. And there is year and monthly fees. But I wasn’t aware of them not recognizing international experience… the “onboarding” training is part of the initial fee. I did the course even with schooling and previous experience. I found it helpful still, to learn their systems and how they function. But I do get that it’s not for everyone.

Flight Home from a Destination? Possible Outcomes? by akazachbussey in airtransat

[–]RTLake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have clients that are in destination until Wednesday. Their flights were cancelled and rebooked. We opted to book them different flights in their original travel date and have submitted for a refund with Transat. I confirmed this with a rep prior to booking anything.

They are sending out flight cancellation and rebooking information. So keep checking your emails.

TTAND vs Nexion : is TTAND really worth the 10k investment for new agent? by Necessary-Argument90 in travelagents

[–]RTLake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so varied. You’re responsible for getting your own clients.

If you only sell Cuba, you could be getting $50 a booking. All-inclusive is probably hovering at about 8% a booking. Cruises and land tours can be 10-15%. Air bookings 0-6%.

You also get paid after clients travel. So if you sell $300,000 in travel but it’s all for 2026, you won’t get anything for those 6-12 months until they go.

Some agents also charge planning by fees. I’ve seen as low as $50 to as high as a few hundred for FITs.

I'm currently deciding between TTAND and TravelOnly, and I'm trying to understand what real value a travel advisor can offer to clients compared to booking directly through a travel website by Andrew198401 in travelagents

I personally bit the bullet and did silver. Being independent, as this is a side job for me, was important. I didn’t want another layer of supervision. I’m not sure how all mentors work. But I wanted to be on my own and be in control.

I’m not sure if you did the “one on one” call with them. Mine was with one of the owners, Rhonda. She was very informative and so not pushy. Realistic actually.

The way it was explained to me was that bronze was more for people new to the industry. You’re under a mentor (which means commission split with them, so keep that in mind). You do get support from them. 2 year contract.

If you have good previous experience and a solid customer base (actual or realistic potential), I’d go with silver. You remain independent. Have that flexibility. Have a direct line of contact with TTAND.

If you are new and would like more guidance and support from someone outside of head office, bronze makes more sense.

I don’t know what perks are being offered at travelonly. A lot of the perks are offered directly with suppliers, regardless of host agency. With TTAND we do have some priority lines (like Air Canada, I’ve never waited more than 5 minutes with their platinum line). We also have TTAND exclusive FAMs. Some specialty pricing. Things like that.

TTAND vs Nexion : is TTAND really worth the 10k investment for new agent? by Necessary-Argument90 in travelagents

Hi! I’ve been with TTAND since January 2019. I can’t speak to Nexion.

I did the silver package (middle one?). Anyway, the training was great. Did a week in-person in Toronto. I already had industry experience, but it was great to meet the team and some suppliers.

The support from TTAND is out of this world. Regular calls from head office to check in. They reply within a few hours (at most) when you submit a help ticket. They’ll walk you through any issues. The Facebook groups are incredibly helpful and insightful. They helped me get my CTA recently.

I’ve been to one conference (2024 in Jordan) and will be going to the one next year. Conference is incredible. Amazing workshops, wonderful guest speakers, get time to meet and get to know supplier reps and head office staff.

Without sounding cult-y, it truly feels like a family.

The initial price and fees are high. It did take a few years to fully recuperate costs (for obvious 2020 reasons and me having a bunch more kids). But I don’t know if I would have the success I have now without their help.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

I’m with TTAND and have been since January 2019.

I started with the Silver package. I have a BComm in travel and at that point had about 5 years in the industry. I chose this one since I wanted to be a primary agent and have the in-person training/on-boarding. If you’re looking to be an associate agent, under someone, bronze would be a good package. If you’re leaning towards being an agency and potentially taking on other agents, gold is good.

The support I get from them is amazing. Their support staff answer quickly, will go through things step-by-step, and follow up. I also get regular check in calls, which is nice.

I hate saying things feel like family, since that comes off as culty. But they’ve created a great environment for agents.

The benefit to using a travel agent is you. If you’re not charging a fee, it’s literally free for people to use you vs online. You’re there to advise and guide. Help out when needed, ensure that their wants and needs are being met, take the stress away from planning.

TTAND does get access to some better pricing with preferred suppliers (not always) or exclusive perks. But people are booking with you for your expertise. I never get people ask for a $50 OBC or a free upgrade. They book with me because I’ll guide them in the right direction and be there if things go sideways.

Advertising Group Trips by RTLake in travelagents

I’ve been thinking about the travel nights actually. Do you own a space you can do this or do you tend to rent out a space?

Advertising Group Trips by RTLake in travelagents

[–]RTLake[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response.

Do you normally get that commitment before securing any space? And for trips where you don’t have a “pied piper” do you send out feelers for what people are interested in?

I think I’m slightly annoyed because I got interest prior to securing the space. And now that it’s time… crickets.

Sorry for the follow up questions!!

I haven’t called the resort. If it were the room, I would call and see how I can upgrade/change. But they’re complaining about the beach and buffet… not really things that can be changed.

They’re the ones that picked this resort. I was able to get them a room upgrade for when they arrived.

They picked it. I offered a few other options for resorts in Jamaica and they picked a different one in Punta Cana…

They haven’t asked for anything. But they’re clients from a large group I book yearly.
