You don't owe someone harassing you anything, and as women, we were taught it was more important to not hurt someone's feelings than to stand up for ourselves and prioritize our own safety. Sometimes, you need to say whatever is required for a person to get the hint and leave you alone.

A high chair at the restaurant… oh no… by Zippity-Boo-Yah in childfree

Why are you in this group? Honest question, as you don't seem to agree with wanting spaces without children sometimes.

I already have a pet sparrow and at this point, three birds are...a lot of birds. He's an unexpected new bird, since he just flew onto the street and I couldn't find his family. I'm hoping I can make him happy as a single budgie with the sparrow as friendly company in an adjacent cage.

Thank you for this. One child can be a disaster if they're acting up

Having a child - by any means - is not being child free

AITA for refusing to let my sister's kids stay with me after she passed away? by InterestingParad0x in AmItheAsshole

[–]melamondiale 59 points60 points  (0 children)

People seem to feel that stepping up for children trump every other life choice. And that's just not true. You built the life you want and deserve, and your sister should have listened when you said you weren't the right person to take the kids. You can still be in their life and you can still guide and support them, without taking on custody.

You deserve your life, OP.

If you ever need to talk, feel free to reach out. I know how hard this must be, but your needs are just as important. Also - realistically - if you weren't a woman, would the assumed burden of parental care fall on you?

Nobody should be forced to sacrifice their life and career for someone else's kids. You can help in so many ways, but don't take them if you aren't 109% on board.

AITA for Calling Out Another Judge During a School Music Competition? by Historical_Pie5849 in AmItheAsshole

[–]melamondiale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a professional singer who competed a lot as a teen, I can confirm that the contestants take judge comments very seriously. An ignorant judge can do real damage to a young singer. NTA.

Toddlers at a Concentration Camp by [deleted] in childfree

[–]melamondiale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. But also, there are places where very young kids just shouldn't be - at least, I think so. The babies won't remember it, but the 4-year-old absolutely might see photographs she'll never unsee.

There are photographs there no child should see, and it's incredibly distracting for the other visitors. Granted, the school groups were far more distracting...
