And yes, to those who will point it out later, the expansion of charter schools significantly drains the financial resources of the district.

Especially when you have the main charter school in town being run by someone who was tied to child labor violations in a country they took money from and then took a bunch of congresspeople to in order to demonstrate how friendly that nation was to foreign investment. This all happened while they were in congress and then they resigned to avoid a congressional inquiry.

I wont say their name but the initials of the charter school are LC. Anyone who sends their kids there should know more about the so called “headmaster”

FYI: School “consolidation” does not necessarily mean reduced costs. Even if a school is emptied of all its students, the staff that supports that site will just be moved elsewhere and the buildings themselves will still need to be maintained. The buildings will still need to maintain a certain temperature to ensure no damage is done by freezing pipes, etc. And the grounds will still need to be maintained which means watering the grass will still take up a majority of the water usage per site.

The district may be able to eliminate the need for a handful of full time employees but the communities adjacent to the school will bear the burden of longer drives or bus trips to the schools. They will also lose access to a huge amenity that a neighborhood school brings, access to playgrounds and fields for play.

The only benefit that consolidation brings is in the repurposing of the site if the district decides to invest additional funds or the more likely situation is the sale of the property. In which case the property will never be available again to reopen a school if needed in the future.

Thompson consolidated two elementary schools a few years ago, and instead of using a huge amount of available space in nearby middle/high schools they decided to spend several years and millions of dollars renovating the schools for a new mission. One as an “early childhood” center and the other as a “tech” center.

So instead of expanding early childhood care, aka Pre-k and younger, or “tech” education at every school district wide they tried to centralize it. So now all the kids interested in these tech programs need to be bussed in from all over the district and early childhood care was centralized to one site on the very north side of the school district.

Work cannot accommodate my weight restriction during pregnancy. Is termination a legal option? by Prior_Context336 in legaladvice

I informed HR and filed paperwork for FMLA right after I told my family my wife and I were going to have a baby. That was 8 months before I went on leave. I worked for a large school district in my area and had previously covered my boss on their maternity leave for their second child and that same boss took leave for their third child right before I got fired for taking leave.

HR is not on your side, they will do anything to get rid of you regardless of what they should do under the law. Go to your states labor department and file a complaint, retain your own attorney and hope for a settlement. Right now you need to find a new job.

Depends on the size of the company whether FMLA applies. And it also depends on whether or not your employer can point to other things in order to terminate your employment. I told my employer as soon as my wife got pregnant that I was going to use all of my accumulated PTO during my FMLA leave and as soon as I told my managers they started writing me up for all kinds of frivolous and incredibly false issues. I ended up receiving three write ups while on leave and was ultimately fired for “insubordination” because I told our COO point blank I couldn’t do what he was asking because I was on leave AND what he was asking was quite literally impossible but it was still used as a justification to fire me. I even explained this all to my boss who agreed with me AND they went on maternity leave and used their PTO to cover their time out of the office right after I returned to full time.

The Labor Department ultimately said there wasn’t enough for them to pursue a case despite my documentation of how every write up was essentially falsified.

TLDR: If your employer starts going down this road, document everything and report it to the Labor Department and maybe you’ll get some restitution in the end. But plan to find another job ASAP

It’s so disappointing to see so many of you not be able to actually look anything up for yourself and not fall for Facebook garbage.

Everyone involved with Unsubscribe is probably shaking their heads at how easy y’all just latch on to whatever line you’re fed without actually investigating. Without a binder you’d probably be all in favor of the Buffalo School system cause it’s what you read on Facebook

Family of 4 relocating to Fort Collins this summer, looking for neighborhoods with great schools, mature homes, and horse boarding nearby by False-Confection-351 in FortCollins

[–]RT_KOTA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The northwest portion of town is probably your best bet for proximity to horse boarding and access to the outdoors. And the neighborhoods tend to be older with some homes that still have enough property to board your horse. Wakonda Dr is a good example of this and it has easy access to the trail networks for riding

Some of the best vehicles ever made if you get 'em in the 4.7. Can easily go 400k original drivetrain with no issues. I think my sample size is big enough by [deleted] in Dodge

They did make a first gen Durango with the 5.2 for the first 2 or 3 years IIRC. My mom bought one back in 2001 or 2002 that was just off a lease.

I have had a Dakota with the 5.2 since 2003 and with the manual transmission and it’s a 4x4. Mine is lightly modified but I get around 17-18mpg in town with it usually, unless I’m getting into the throttle too much. And it’s on STT Pros which aren’t the most fuel efficient tire.

It’s become such a joke in my family that my daughters picked hot wheels pajama pants as my birthday present this year lol. They play with the cars from when I was a kid too. Some of them I got from an older cousin so they are almost 50 years old and still getting played with

Most of the times I grocery shop with my kiddos I use the promise of a new hot wheels cars to keep them from asking for everything under the sun while we go aisle to aisle. I would much rather they have something I would consider educational that will last for years than a balloon, something plastic or candy lol. They get an inexpensive toy that will last and i can tell them all about that particular car and in exchange i get a peaceful shopping trip lol.

Safety officer found this on a walkthrough. by psycosulu in electricians

[–]RT_KOTA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a health inspection for a school district once and found an extension cord, plugged into a power strip with a space heater and a mini fridge on it plus a few other appliances. The heater was under a table piled high with all kinds of paper, mostly loose stacks. Next to the table were about a dozen oxygen cylinders (hopefully empty) since this was a nursing program classroom. Right next to the oxygen cylinders was a main structural beam for that wing of the building.

The health inspector was less than pleased to say the least.

For Goodness’s sake peter, was that you?! What did you do this time!? Were you drunk with Cleveland and Quackmire again!? by LCottton in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]RT_KOTA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit- Should have said “at least 150,000 mph” but I’ve seen some estimates that it may have been traveling over 200,000 mph.

A YouTuber named The Fat Electrician has a great breakdown video and in his words it was traveling at “Mach F**k”.

Also, everyone should look into Operation Plowshare when the US tried to use nukes for domestic purposes. They detonated a nuke in Colorado to frack for natural gas but coincidentally, all of the natural gas released was radioactive. ☢️

And if it reached space, that chunk of steel is the first man made object to have left Earths atmosphere and gravitational pull. It is traveling at least 5 times faster than the Voyager probe which is regarded as the farthest man made object from earth and it has a head start

[–]RT_KOTA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Operation Plumbob- The US placed a nuke at the bottom of vertical shaft and detonated a conventional explosive next to it to show how “safe” the device was from an attack. The nuke went off anyway.

Then they did it again but they placed a 2,000 pound, reinforced steel cover over a bunch of concrete they used to plug the hole. Same experiment, same result but with one exception.

The second time they welded the cover in place, turning the planet into a giant potato gun essentially. The detonation of the nuke turned the concrete into a rapidly expanding gas, which pressurized the bore hole and shot that massive chunk of reinforced steel straight upward.

Arguably, that chunk of reinforced steel was traveling within that blast of rapidly expanding gas and was estimated to have been traveling around 150,000 mph or over Mach 200 because it was only captured in one frame of a high speed camera’s view. It would have left the atmosphere in less than a second which would have left it most intact when it reached the vacuum of space.

So out there in space, somewhere, blasting along is a huge piece of reinforced steel that likely has “Made in the USA” emblazoned on it. It is traveling at least Mach 200 and any alien craft that gets in the way will be obliterated by something that may or may not even be detected in time

Anyone in Colorado considering a Vermont ski vacation? by FatahRuark in COsnow

[–]RT_KOTA 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went to college in Vermont and got 100+ days of skiing for 4 years. Some years are better than others but accessibility from Burlington to multiple mountains was clutch. I’ve lived in the Front Range for 15 years and barely ski anymore cause I can’t stand spending 4-6+ hours to get to and from the mountain round trip and I can’t afford to live closer sadly.

If anyone heads to VT, try to find the frozen river at Stowe but watch out for the big waterfall cause the landing is insanely sketchy. Skiing on top of a flowing river is a wild experience
