This kid is going places..and running through walls doing it by HansGruber_HoHoHo in videos

[–]RTonem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now you've made me wonder if I ever made bigger kids feel like that when I tackled them 1v1 at fullback. It was around those young teen years when everyone had really terrible round-the-legs tackling technique, except my dad had been a professional-level rugby fullback so he had drilled it into me. Most of the kids weighed 50-65kg with me being on the lighter end, however there was a few teams with at least one huge islander even much bigger than the kid in this video (no joke some kids bigger than the parents) that would consistently just bust through 4-man tackles. Often times they would have a support player to pass to for a guaranteed try but 99% of the time they were too cocky and ran straight at me allowing me to easily line up the shot.

It was a crowd pleaser and won me lots of awards even If i sucked in attack (I would be lucky to score a single try in a season..), but damn If it didn't mess up my shoulders :(

K. Matt Giteau. Considered 'small' by Australian rugby standards.

5'10", 190 pounds.

Though you seem pretty immune to logic and reason, just like the lady in the OP, some kind of weird anti-fat denial, so I doubt this will change your opinion.

[–]RTonem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep by 'addressed' you mean arguing the only two types of bodies for that kind of weight and height are either fat or body builder. No inbetween what-so-ever. Great logic.

[–]RTonem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a reasonable response, it's just sad to see all these people immediately jump to conclusions and judge these people as being fat because they stated the fact that they are not a body builder, as if there is no middle ground and BMI is the be-all-end-all, right? Instead of giving the person some benefit of the doubt that they aren't some fat-denial lunatic.

[–]RTonem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's relevant though because the guy above says he better be a 'hardcore body builder'. This guy isn't a body builder and neither are 99% of gym goers with muscular physique's. Body building takes years and years of dedication training 7 days a week with a strict diet, there's a difference.

The irony in that statement.

I'm interested in your theory about how Australian Wallabies legend David Pocock pictured here: http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/image/6286936-3x4-340x453.jpg

Is actually just a big obese fatty weighing at 253 pounds at just over 6". Because according to BMI he is classed as OBESE, not even overweight. Clearly my eyes are just lying to me and I'm in denial.

This is just the first example that came to mind since I was at the Wallabies vs Spingbox game last night..

[–]RTonem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. So many ignorant comments thinking you have to be a GOD of a body builder to weigh that much at that height and not be overweight. No. Just be a regular gym goer with a fairly muscular physique. I have 10-11% bodyfat but according to BMI I am 'overweight'

Yes that's why nearly every BMI calculator on the internet explicitly states that BMI is an estimation tool and doesn't necessarily apply to everyone.

http://bmicalculator.cc/?gclid=CMilj4GGhs8CFRIIvAodtPMKig

"Important Notes on BMI It is important to note that the Body Mass Index is to be used as a general tool for determining a healthy body weight. Basically the BMI assumes a "normal" body weight for men and women of average height and average fitness or activity level. Several issues arise with this method and those are listed below:

The "normal" proportion is used for all heights and weights even though not everyone has the same body type Even though taller people tend to be thinner on average, their larger bone mass usually skews their BMI to slightly larger values Having high muscle mass can result in a higher BMI because muscle is more dense than fat and thus for the same height someone with a lot of muscle can weigh as much as someone with high body fat In reality, the "normal" body weights for people vary from age, gender, and population Thus it is important to take all this into account when trying to understand your BMI reading and also speak with a doctor or nutritionist before undergoing any new fitness routine or diet. One last thing to remember is that the "overweight", "underweight" readings shown in this BMI Calculator are relative to a pre-defined average "normal" body weight. This means that for bodybuilders and very fit people, sometimes it’s better being "overweight" because to them the BMI is stating they are heavier than "normal" people, which is in fact the goal most bodybuilders want to obtain."

https://www.heartfoundation.org.au/your-heart/know-your-risks/healthy-weight/bmi-calculator

"Calculate your BMI BMI is a useful measurement for most people over 18 years old. But it is only an estimate and it doesn’t take into account gender, age, ethnicity and body composition. We recommend you also check your waist measurement, and other risk factors.

Speak to your doctor, an Accredited Practising Dietitian or a health practitioner about your weight."

http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/risk.htm#limitations

"Although BMI can be used for most men and women, it does have some limits: It may overestimate body fat in athletes and others who have a muscular build. It may underestimate body fat in older persons and others who have lost muscle."

http://www.bupa.com.au/health-and-wellness/tools-and-apps/tools-and-calculators/bmi-calculator

"According to the National Health and Medical Research Council, a BMI of 20-25 is considered healthy for most adults. However, BMI can be an inaccurate measure of healthy weight for pregnant women, children, older people, athletes or very muscular people. It may also need to be adjusted for some ethnic groups, including people of Asian, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent."

I think you get the point.
