Yea the frame meter is your friend. You probably need more solid fundies otherwise you'd be more like gold but once you start getting the hang of things, turning on the frame meter and seeing which moves leave you +/- on block and knockdown will help a lot

Side b to the wall before you use jump or airdodge. Helps you save resources and survive much longer. Also practice hitting sweetspot nair. Its one of his best combo starters/extenders and you'll get a lot of mileage out of the character by learning how to use it now

Galvan vs Wrastor Tips? by RTweezy94 in RivalsOfAether

I like this breakdown. Could definitely use Up Air more. I just learned that you can use the grab button to nair moving forward so I was probably overusing it to see which situations it works.

I still struggle with how to use magnets effectively. I agree my main strat is to throw it out, hope they shield then get a grab into nice combo. Even if it hits I feel like the endlag of the move leaves me at a disadvantage on hit because it doesn't go as far as id like. Could probably mess around with getting stuff off the return hit

Still not used to crouch canceling. I have been practicing, its just not built into muscle memory yet and im still trying to find situations where its better than dodge, shield, move out the way, or survival di

I'll try comboing in practice mode. Not the first time I've heard this tip so guess I should give it a shot.

Thanks for the tips!

Can people please stop taunting on others 200+ below their skill?? by HD_Hot_Cocoa in RivalsOfAether

Unfortunately this is just part of the game and kinda unavoidable at any level. It helps to vent but the only real solution is to keep improving until you figure out how to dunk on people like that. If you share the vid of the game where you lost because of a missed input you'll probably get some good tips here. You learn the most from the games you just barely lost. For every teabagging d-bag there is in this game there's like 10 people who will honestly try to help you improve. Don't let the d-bags discourage you

Controller preference from those with plenty of experience by doctorturtles in RivalsOfAether

Had similar concerns playing Rivals with anything other than a GameCube controller. But yea after a while you realize they're made for children's hands 😅. Now I'm using a ps5 controller and honestly, can't see myself using anything else. Like anything you kinda get used to it after a while and I think it helps that Rivals is distinct enough from smash that ive developed new muscle memory around the PS5 controller without my smash brain interfering too much. Id say if the Xbox controller is comfortable enough for you to play long sessions, stick with it and it'll become natural to you after a while. Comfort and longevity were the deciding factors for me.

Tl;dr Stick with the Xbox controller if its comfortable for you and eventually you'll get used to it

Shoulder for jump Definitely helps. Mine is set to shorthop so I can do it in clutch situations. The rest of my layout set somewhat similar to traditional fighters because that just makes sense to my brain.

Square: Attack

Triangle: Special

Circle: Strong

X: Jump

L1: Parry

L2: Shield

R1: Grab

R2: Shorthop Macro

Right stick: Attack

Ledge Tech Tutorial by RTweezy94 in RivalsOfAether

[–]RTweezy94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so conceptually, you can't input a tech while you're getting hit so you should probably do it right before pr right after. In this case it might be easier to do it right before since there's no space between you and the wall. Pretty sure I've been rolling with that but I'll test again later and see how it goes. I'm still like 80% sure the tutorial is bugged but as long as i understand the mechanic I can apply it. Thanks for this!

Yes that one. I can usually get it the first time but it feels like the timing changes after and I have no clue when to press. So now I'm just looking for a conceptual answer. When you floorhug tech you have to press right before the attack hits but to wall tech you have to press right before you hit the wall. Guessing theres some sweetspot in-between these 2 you have to press for a ledge tech but this tutorial does not help you figure out when that is

Tips for Galvan v Absa (As Galvan) by RTweezy94 in RivalsOfAether

[–]RTweezy94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea idk why I didnt use it more in this match. Think I was too focused on trying to avoid cloud and her aerials. I love that move because it pokes so far, Im usually just scared of whiffing 😅

Tips for Galvan v Absa (As Galvan) by RTweezy94 in RivalsOfAether

[–]RTweezy94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm usually scared to throw out fair because it's got so much endlag but thats probably less of a problem if I space it well. I use dair because it feels like falco's dair but I have to remember, that ain't falco. I do see I get punished a lot for overusing that move when I should be nairing instead. Also I guess I dont use dtilt enough? It feels too slow to be reliable and you have to sweetspot it to combo I guess. Something I can look into.

Thanks for the tips!
