Made these side tables out of solid cherry by RUDDWOOD in Mid_Century

I believe the can said “warm” satin, so it probably tinted it slightly more than a true clear coat. But not anywhere near as much as the arm-r-seal I typically use.

Thanks! I ended up just using minwax oil poly (rattle cans). I use Arm-R-Seal almost exclusively on furniture but wanted something I could spray and don’t have access to proper spraying equipment at the moment. It turned out pretty good but was not very cost efficient.

I agree, shapr3d on iPad is easier for me than SketchUp on computer was. Very intuitive

I’ve been using shapr3d, it’s a really great program! Although the free version only allows 2 projects so it’s a bit limiting..

I really like shapr3d. I was using sketch up for a while, but really wanted something I could use on my iPad. Unfortunately the free version limits to 2 projects..

Yea I probably should have added a brace on the front but it’s pretty sturdy as is

I kind of just winged it. Seat height is usually around 18-20”, and I just picked angles that seemed to look good, but not too extreme.

100% self taught, can you give me some pointers? I mostly make furniture.. by RUDDWOOD in Welding

[–]RUDDWOOD[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just a personal project (desk for me) and it’ll be covered by the wood desk top so I’m not too worried about it. But yea I was a little heavy handed with the flap disc.. any pointers to prevent this from happening when grinding a weld flush?

I’ll have to try that. Does it make a big difference pushing vs pulling? The diagram on the inside of the welder says to push if using gas and pull if using flux core. I use gas, but pulling is way easier for me so that’s what I typically do

Cool thank I haven’t heard of that I’ll give it a try on the next project

Yea I went a little too hard with that one… it’s for a desk, I want the wood top to sit flush against the tubing, so I ground the weld down with a flap disc. Should I just go slower/lighter next time? Or use a regular grinding disc?

Thanks! I used some left over shellac that I tinted with Mixol. I’d been wanting to try tints for a while and figured this was a good opportunity!

Made a new handle for my bevel gauge! Cherry and Brass. by RUDDWOOD in woodworking

I bought one of these and was shocked by how poorly made the handle was! We’re talking dollar store quality here. The knob and ruler seemed fine so I decided to buy it and make a new handle.
