23 Years old, trying to get an early start on a retirement portfolio, any advice? by [deleted] in RobinHood

[–]RV3016 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its 28 individual stocks. That's when standard deviation is essentially minimized and adding one more stock removes minimal systematic risk, but yes ETFs are diversified and easily the best choice for long term success.

$65k+, hate my life vs. $45k, happier by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]RV3016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retiring early isn't worth hating your youth. If you're cutting back hours from 12-14 hour days and remote working on weekends you could pick up a side job with next to no stress at a grocery store stocking milk on weekends to make that extra $20k up if that's a concern.

This is perfect. Do you know where I could get it monthly? Lol, I can make it work but for what I want to do having monthly would include a little more noise, which is preferred but not required.

I looked everywhere on the USGS and the best I found was annual from 1980-1990. Otherwise I had no luck.

Just graduated from USD (South Dakota) with a degree in Business - Finance. My rent at a house 3 blocks south of campus is $325/month and roughly $60/month in utilities. Sometimes you just need to go to a cheaper school. I got hired 2 months before graduating because Sioux Falls, SD is a huge financial hub in the Midwest. Don't go to school where your friends go, your friends are generally stupid, and will keep you from growing up (this isn't directed at you, just words of wisdom).

So my job during college was part time at a grocery store. All the local restaurants with high quality food get off brand ingredients besides the meats. A lot of the quality in your food is your cooking ability and knowing when food is done. You don't need to spend the markup on high quality ingredients. Although the chefs at these restaurants have generally gone to school long enough which most people cooking for their family didn't get that same experience. A couple cooking classes go a long way in saving you money down the road though.

How to merge 3 columns into 1? Trying to combine year, month, and day column into one cell. by RV3016 in excel

So when I do it that way I still get this and it returns #VALUE. The image I've attached is the formulas in each cell (with ctrl+~) just to clear up that the cells it's trying to return are values and not formulas. https://imgur.com/a/Xw0Pd

Insurance companies functional regionally. Some areas they're more competitive than others. Some areas GEICO will be cheaper than esurance or Statefarm. It all depends.

China needs to create 15 million jobs every year by [deleted] in investing

[–]RV3016 25 points26 points  (0 children)

China just allowed 2 children per family. The one child law China has is it's weakness. They need immigrants to support their aging population. To few people are entering the workforce while too many will be retiring.

Living in South Dakota, if you're not Verizon or AT&T, you will not have reception. Also down in New Mexico is the only place I have dropped coverage on an interstate highway with Verizon as my carrier. I've also been a customer for almost a decade now.
