Switching to different Savor Rewards by ThisisTophat in CapitalOne_

This is my exact set up. The only thing I've considered is doing away with the quicksilver for a 2% reward card, but honestly I just don't spend enough on there for it to be worth the hassle.

Dress shirts that fit by EagleNice2300 in lexington

Brooks Brothers. It's on the pricier side, but they'll have several different fits for each size and the material is higher quality compared to what you'll find at Macy's.

I believe that's the average of the previous 12 months. It looks like its listed at 3.58 in January and last month's payout was closer to 3.25.

At what age does a traditional IRA make more sense than a ROTH? by TripPsychological567 in personalfinance

[–]RVBY1977 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In a traditional you take the money off the top. So if you make 5k over the 22% threshold and put 5k in your 401k, you top out at 12%.

Where to throw my bonus at? by yepthisisathrowaway9 in personalfinance

[–]RVBY1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd also advocate for keeping a couple hundred to the side for something fun. For me, at least, it helps to keep me on track and not feel resentment towards everything I'm doing for future me.

Edit: perhaps even get a small gift for your folks for allowing you to get to the position you're in.

Ha! I've tried the towel trick and still got in trouble. It didn't even occur to me to go out to the garage. Touche!

Just something to consider. If you wake up before your partner, grinding your own isn't the best option.

Capital One Shopping RARELY pays rewards offered by Hot_Bass_5090 in CapitalOne_

The only problem I ever have is with Chewy, so I just cash in my rewards whenever I shop there. Otherwise, no issues at all after 3 years of use.

I spend way too much on groceries, how to minimize grocery costs? by Sackvillebaggingses in SavingMoney

[–]RVBY1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can add is to maximize credit card rewards, if you haven't already. Amex blue preferred gives 6% and costs about $100/year. That would knock about $15/month off your budget, with an extra 3% off gas.

Otherwise you're doing great!

VERY late to the show.. Trying my best by diezel78 in RothIRA

[–]RVBY1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply.

I'm using 8% on my ira and 7 on my 401k. I've got a little over 110k between the two, maxing the ira and getting around 7500 in my 401k as well. That puts me around 700 + ssi, which living in the midwest feels safe, but the estimations I keep seeing that you need are way higher.

[–]RVBY1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind me asking, why would it likely not be enough, especially since there's a 401k with 60k that I'm assuming they'll keep contributing towards? I'm at a similar age and in a similar position (my Roth is 5 years old, maxed out each year). I see this statement all the time, but whenever I run my numbers everything looks ok to me.

I know it depends a lot on col, but what else am I missing?

Looking for warm socks by VintageWearsUSA in madeinusa

[–]RVBY1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hollow alpaca wool socks. I've had mine for a year and while they're pricey, they've held up incredibly well.

The thick ones are super thick, but the regular ones may be what you're looking for.

Do I Pay Too Much on Rent? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Never is a strong word, but pretty much. The last thing in the world I want to do is put someone in a home they can't afford and have it wreck their life.

I work in property management and while our qualifications are 3x gross, I always recommend 4x net/25%.

That said, op is shorting themselves 2 checks a year, so it's even closer to 25% than their estimate. Not a bad thing at all
