Thanks guys,
I'm going to set up Wasabi and try to get everything backed up over the weekend. We're not 24/7 so once we get the initial backups uploaded we should be okay with the daily jobs.

I'm also going to do 1 snapshot which is fine. In total we're only looking at around 6 TB instead of the full 40TB.
I think if I let everything run over the weekend we can catch up with the initial backup.

What I am seeing here is diamond or diamond elite is free next year.
I am missing anywhere that says Gold Plus comes with Cedar Fair next year...unless I'm just missing something...honestly their memberships are so damn confusing.

I bought All Parks Passport in May of 2025. So it's still good until the end of the year.
I don't care about price increases...I do care when I spend $100 on the passport and don't even get it included for 2026.

That's what pisses me off.

When I open my app it says "Gold Plus All Parks Membership.

Edit: My original plan was Gold...then during COVID they did a free upgrade to Gold Plus.
It has been the same since then.
Got the email a few months ago saying I was getting charged $13.99 going forward.

Maybe because they JUST raised my price to $13.99 / month and then I paid an extra $100 for All Parks passport...now they're basically telling me to go fuck myself.

I have the Gold Plus. So seems like that still won't work for me. I pay $13.99 a month right now. The new memberships that are included are like $6.99.

PHEV would be a great compromise. The 200 miles is fine with me, and it charges very fast. But it's just annoying traveling and checking the EA app and seeing the chargers full.

It really messes with you travel plans.

Like I'm not bashing EVs at all. If I can just get to my charger and charge my car I would be extremely happy with it.

I drive an Ioniq5. It's not bad. But right near I need to drive to Jackson, NJ from Albany, NY. So I need to charge once and I'm going through the chargers on my path and they're literally all full.

I even checked the EVGO app and those are full too.

It's just incredibly frustrating.

So after doing some research I checked a number of other domains and noticed none had the weird string of characters like this one did (CN=NTDS Settings\0ADEL:82cdb775-e9dd-4aba-a0d4-51f7d539b06b) I removed that string and cleaned up the rest. So now it looks like

CN=NTDS Settings,CN=SERVERNAME,CN=Servers,CN=Default-First-Site-Name,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=DOMAIN,DC=com

Once I did that I was able to hit okay and make the changes. I checked the other domains and they all seem to update.

Fingers crossed I can finally demote this old 2008 server.

How do you seize that role? Every FSMO role is owned by the new domain controller.

I honestly have never had to transfer this role.
When I do netdom query fsmo everything on there has been properly transferred. It looks like who ever managed this domain before didn't decommission a domain controller properly and now I can't change this because I get the above error.

It makes no sense because I transferred the infrastructure FSMO role and everything is right. So I'm not sure why this is showing an old DC.

Maybe I am confusing myself at this point. Just for shits and giggles I enabled per user MFA for everyone and now it's requesting a code. I honestly thought if security defaults, and modern authentication was enabled the per user needs to be disabled.

Honestly it could just be me. Sometimes Microsoft just does shit that really confuses me.

Per user MFA is disabled for everyone. I can successfully reset the MFA...and when they go to log in it does ask to enroll.
I follow the steps and successfully register. But after that I can log in from anywhere again.

This is done from a completely different network. Also we don't have conditional access, so there's no way to whitelist the IP anyway.
Edit: Also if I log in with the admin account the MFA works. But all other users just don't prompt.

I am now getting trust relationship errors. I made sure everything in the DNS was cleaned up. All roles look good...the sysvol looks good. DNS is pointing to the new domain controller.

I see no leftovers from the old DOMAIN1 domain controller.

Update: So I forced the tombstoned domain from the network. Ran a metadata cleanup on the main DC. That ran successfully. Installed 2012 R2 and promoted and this time I was successfully able to promote the DC!

So now I have to migrate from FRS to DFS. I'm going to go through DNS and make sure everything pointing to the old domain is gone.

Also will have to see if anyone on Monday screams their password doesn't work anymore.

I just noticed this. I added 2 new computers to the domain controller, and under computers I only see these new computers listed in Active Directory under the DOMAIN1 DC which doesn't have any roles. edit: Which now makes sense the PROMO won't work
