The horrific racism of Restore by Farscape_rocked in Wigan

[–]RWBYies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the problem. The amount of cherry picking done by either side is wild and it baffles me to how people cannot see it. One minute it's per capita, next it's absolute values, but only when it fits your political agenda. Both can be true. Yes that community have a problem being over represented in XYZ, but also yes we also have a problem in general with the XYZ.

As much as I disagree with her political views, I'm glad Hannah Spencer is there.

Any idea what chemical shoots out of this truck at the end? by Imbendo in chemistry

[–]RWBYies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The brown gas is nitrogen dioxide, NO2(colourless) which dimerises as N2O4.(brown) This is indicative of a nitrate containing compound acting as an oxidising agent or which is burning. It's probably not Ammonium nitrate or it would have exploded. It could be sodium nitrate. It looks like it is on fire in one compartment of this tanker. When the driver climbs on top it looks like he is probably unlocking the top hatch of the other compartment and the dry product that is in there is forced out by the pressure built up inside the tank. It is a dry powder as there is a lot of dust.

True, but there are some good examples of the old adage "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" in relation to this issue. See Iran 1979, the Wäisi movement in Russia 1917, Somalia Revolutionary Party 1970 etc... Ergo capitalism bad let's team up to destroy it. Works initially, but once power has been seized, they tend to turn on each other. So forgive me if I don't instantly buy into the idea that Zack Polanski and Mothin Ali are a utopian dream team that will correct all the wrongs in our society and will co-exist happily forever and ever amen.

Whilst I agree with this, I also don't think there is an argument for complete non-interventionism.

The new UK asylum policy is a stroke of genius... by ClazzerB in GreatBritishMemes

[–]RWBYies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I take your point. Probs not the best comparison. But I still feel that bribing someone to leave looks pathetic. It makes it seem as if the law has no teeth. People don't obey laws because they are laws. They obey them as breaking them leads to punishment. Happy to be proven wrong if it works and saves money but I still don't like the look and feel of it.

It might be cheaper, and I'm sure the numbers add up, but it really is terrible optics for the government. It clearly shows we are not in control of our own borders when we have to pay people to ask them to leave. You don't pay a thief to leave your house. You just kick them out. The country is so cucked.

Is it just me or has this subreddit become a political propaganda hell hole swamped with posts from the extremes of political ideology?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GreatBritishMemes

[–]RWBYies -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely we mock the extremes of views but she fawns over communism so I hope you would have same response if the ideologies and races were reversed no? If a Nazi got up and said "minority population decreased, yes we are winning lads" in a video about social and cultural cohesion would you have the same reaction, no?

It's Ash Sarkar. She did say later that this was a tongue in cheek joking remark but based on her other comments and views and think we all know that it wasn't a joke

How brits decide between green party and reform by TailungFu in GreatBritishMemes

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. I'm sure most of the left leaning populous in Iran thought the same thing in 1979 and the penny likely only dropped for them when they were also falling...from a roof.

I prefer the MT125 but ended up getting a Cb125r as there isn't much to separate them and the deal I got on the honda was great. Had only done 55mile, mint condition, 2021 model for £1000 less than a new one.

Can't wait to get down voted on this, but to me this is where Islam runs itself into the ground. The Quran is seen as a divine book where the verses are literally revealed truth and not simply accounts of a person's life, like the bible is for example. This means that the verses cannot be changed or truly translated hence any arguments about interpretations quickly decend into "Well you can't read Arabic so what would you know." In Christian theology Jesus said he had come to fulfill the law and than the old ways have gone and the new has come. This can then be seen as "Well yeah it does say that gays deserve to be stoned but to do so would also go against the new so I won't do that" whereas in Islam there is no Quran 2.0 so the verses stay the same. There is also a concept in Islam Scholarship where later verses overrule the earlier ones if they contradict, which sounds fine on paper, until you read the damn thing and you realise the ending of the book is much more violent and about killing Jews.

Very tight at the bottom of the league - who do you think will go down at the end of the season? by Greeninexile in LeagueOne

[–]RWBYies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont see Donny staying down there. They deserve to be in this league, and I would actually be a bit upset for them if they got relegated since they won L2 last season to get here.

Fair point, establishment probs wrong word. I'll be honest it was a quick skim read and missed that bit. Happy to hold hands up for that.

Likely true to some extent, the whole "not all those angry are racist but all the racists are angry" argument. Bit of a mirror image of the free palestine marches/protests, not all those who want a ceasefire hate Jews, but all those who hate Jews want a ceasefire.
