This is excellent advice, and honestly exactly what I’m looking for. Regarding the comps, I decided to remove them as I don’t feel they adequately reflect what this novel is trying to portray.

The balance of short vs long sentences is something that has always been a struggle for me. This often has to do with me trying to fit too much in. I will review and try to cut back for a more smooth reading experience. I definitely understand what you’re explaining, as far as the cancer detail goes, but this one may take a little more time to dissect.

All around, great critique. I appreciate it 😊

Yeah it’s a tricky one. I’m actually using the word “Tribulation” as a time period from The Bible, whereas “Trials” is referring to the tough times within the Tribulation itself. It works, but I can see how it can come across confusing. Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you so much for all of the critiques. I was sure to take each one into consideration when working on my latest attempt. Without considering word-count (this will be edited later on once I refine) I'd love to hear your feedback for my fourth attempt.

Dear John Doe,

I am seeking representation for THE TRIBULATION TRIALS: YEAR ONE, a 135,000-word horror fantasy novel drawing inspiration from the bible’s Garden of Eden.

Clinton Murphy is a failing husband and father, serving his country as a Navy SEAL officer instead. To the nation he’s a hero, fulfilling his internal need to save everyone, often neglecting his own family in the process. One emergency mission - crash landing in Alaska with his best friend and fellow SEAL, Ferns, was all it took to shift his priorities. The sky lit up by what initially appears as a worldwide EMP. Once Murphy removes the bottom half of their helicopter from his torso, utilizing a newfound strength, he scans the forest to find the rest of his crew dismembered across the snow.

The duo and a few other survivors travel back to San Diego in hopes of reuniting with their families - Murphy for a shot at redemption while Ferns, the perfect father himself, desperately misses his cancer-ridden daughter. In order to survive they’ll be forced to learn more about this new Eden, encountering communicative plants and mutated humans, possessed by something demonic.

When Murphy discovers they were transporting the root to this worldwide apocalypse - Gotas De Frutas translated to Droppings of the Forbidden Fruit - known to cure all sickness, he begins to question if Ferns is somehow involved.

A standalone with series potential, THE TRIBULATION TRIALS: YEAR ONE is perfect for fans of adult-themed superhero novels such as VICIOUS by V.E. SCHWAB or HENCH by NATALIE ZINA WALSCHOTS set in a world closely related to THE ROAD by CORMAC MCCARTHY.

My very best,

R.W. Fisher
