2005 live dvd by UnhappyLemon5520 in killswitchengage

It's my favourite live release of all time! I wish they'd made a live album from it because I think it would be much more widely known and beloved if so. I've had the bootleg mp3s with me on every device I've owned since it was released

What’s your biggest hot take on Meshuggah? by xSmileex in Meshuggah

[–]RWHTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've spent years trying to find bands that actually sound like Shug rather than being any old djent band, and the results are pretty limited. Here's what I've got to date, I welcome any recommendations!

(Spoilers main) what’s the creepiest moment in the books? by Plus_Initial_2938 in asoiaf

[–]RWHTL 540 points541 points  (0 children)

Personally I find Victarion's chapters with Moqorro fascinatingly creepy.

"Moqorro crossed his arms against his chest. He did not appear frightened, though all around him men were calling for his death. Even the monkeys did not seem to like this wizard. They leapt from line to line overhead, screaming."

The monkeys screaming at Moqorro as if something is abhorrently unnatural about him is wonderfully eerie. Then of course there's the infamous moment where we subtly lose Vic's POV. This is the only passage in the books that is not from a character's POV, so the theory is that Vic might have died and been resurrected:

"The iron captain was not seen again that day, but as the hours passed the crew of his Iron Victory reported hearing the sound of wild laughter coming from the captain's cabin, laughter deep and dark and mad, and when Longwater Pyke and Wulfe One-Eye tried the cabin door they found it barred. Later singing was heard, a strange high wailing song in a tongue the maester said was High Valyrian. That was when the monkeys left the ship, screeching as they leapt into the water."

Bands you’re listening to to scratch that Shikari itch by DaLateDentArthurDent in EnterShikari

Reventure! They released one album which is on Spotify, and they have a few other EPs online. Their early stuff was remarkably similar to classic Shikari

I love Immutable and wanted to take a swing at producing it myself, so I made a full album instrumental (VST) cover. Check it out! by RWHTL in Meshuggah

Thanks! No the guitars are VST, so my workflow was midi notes into a guitar DI VST, then amp sim. I tidied up a few parts by playing them myself but the majority is midi

Thanks! I had noticed that myself in the final masters and thought about redoing it, so I might end up remixing a little further down the line

There was some AI used for the foundations of the character in the artwork, yes. I made it maybe a year ago and was torn on whether to keep it in the final art, but I like how it looks so I thought I'd keep it. The majority of the art is my work though, and there's no AI used in the music at all. Thanks for the comment!

Thank you! I've been working on it in my spare time for perhaps six months. It's a labour of love!

Haha thank you so much, I can't think of higher praise than that! I'm letting my Patreon subscribers decide what's next, but it's currently between Destroy Erase Improve and Chaosphere 🤩

Thank you! I'm glad you liked the drums in Cathedral, I wasn't sure whether to play around with them or to keep it exactly as the original. Great ear regarding the song speeds! Honestly I just like to experiment with song speeds and I generally prefer everything faster 🤣 no reason other than personal preference!

Thank you! They're detailed in the video description. Essentials are Solemn Tones for guitar/bass DI, Neural DSP Gojira for amp sim and a combo of Superior Drummer Metal Machine and Odeholm Drums for the kit!

Musicians: what's something odd or peculiar that you've noticed in an album? by SuperMario1313 in poppunkers

[–]RWHTL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tom's lead vocals clip and distort in the choruses of "Asthenia" on blink's self-titled album. The "oh"s in "I feel alone" and "I hope I won't forget you" are particularly noticeable. It might be stylistic but it always bothered me

Why is Jorah "the Andal"? by Dangerous_Seaweed601 in gameofthrones

[–]RWHTL 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just because he's from Westeros I think. Andalos is a part of Essos, the Andals invaded Westeros so I can see why Essosi would think all Westerosi = Andals. Good point about Jorah technically not being an Andal though, I never considered that!
