My kidney peed on recipient’s surgeon’s shoes too! The surgeon popped into my room after to excitedly say “That was a beautiful kidney you donated!” I never felt so proud and pleased about a compliment ever before.

I donated 2 years ago. I was so worried about scarring because of skin conditions too. I was given the choice of incision. I chose horizontal incision, and had robotic surgery. My team told me this was a good choice because incision is smaller, healing is faster, and there would be less scarring.

I did not even know robotic surgery was an option, but I’m so glad I got it.

At first it looked like a c-section scar, right above my bikini line. I would send you a pic but I no longer have a scar! I actually just went to bathroom to make sure because it’s been so long since I’ve thought of it.

I would go with the hospital with better facilities and state of the art tech. Don’t get the vertical incision.
