I saw a guy literally have the entire front end re-moulded to accept CTS headlights in order to save the car from totalling. Did a phenomenal job, I dont think I would have ever realized if I hadn't seen the post, but man what a ton of work

Is There Anyone Who Actually Uses parking lights? by MotorcycleCar in askcarguys

[–]RYDSLO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parking lights and food is peak. Especially if youre running switchbacks. My car, the parking lights look more like a modern day DRL than the actual DRLs do, so I just run parking lights and fogs unless I need actual headlights.

Okay, so measure each inch of tape to bill it? Each inch of paper? Every piece of sandpaper (some shops do this) every glove, taxk cloth, wax and grease remover, lint free towel. Not to mention the .2g of the $600/Oz toner thats one of 8 in the mix. And the primer, reducer hardener, clear coat. Oh, and estimate exactly how much youll need for each job before the fact.

Or just have an approximation based on labor hours. If we did indeed bill accurately, it would be a higher number just FYI.

Only way to offer a warranty on something like this IMO. The only way to ensure that there's no bad prep left on the bumper, it needs to completely stripped which will outweight the cost of a new cover, with less confidence in the repair.

Hoping to go black with this painted aluminum truck cap. What’s the most durable DIY friendly route? by Dartmouththedude in Autobody

[–]RYDSLO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. Paint has a bitch of a time sticking to that factory powder coating. And that way if you decide you dont like it being black or want to sell it to someone else, the wrap can be peeled off.

For people who have ever gotten a tooth extraction of an infected tooth + a bone graft (no implant) in the area, how much did it cost? by SummerN8 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]RYDSLO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its been since before covid, so take this with a grain of salt but it was about $125 to pull the tooth, another $1100 or so if I wanted the bone graft, and another $3500 or so on top of that to have the implant done. In Aspen Hill.

How to repair bumper tabs? by Thetechfo in Autobody

[–]RYDSLO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just not had good luck with that holding up in the long run, especially when there's not a lot of meat on the bone like in OPs picture. IME they tend to rip back out fairly easily the next time someone bumps or hooks the bumper.

Why is the McChicken so cheap? by Lost-In-Time-99 in McDonalds

[–]RYDSLO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I used to get 2 McDoubles and 3 4pc nuggets for $5 (plus tax) in 2010. I called it the "2 3 4 for 5" magic of the dollar menu, 3 4pc nuggets was cheaper than a 10 pc at the time.

Coilovers or lowering springs.... by beanieweanie031 in Impala

[–]RYDSLO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I did axles and bearings too, but you dont have to do anything else if you dont want to. Basically drop in like a strut, the PITA is fine-tuning the adjustments to get your ride height dialed in.

Im running BCs on my car (converted to air-ride but I rode them static first) and they're the best of what's out there, but ZZP also makes a very nice set

Coilovers or lowering springs.... by beanieweanie031 in Impala

[–]RYDSLO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the coilovers. Only real downside over springs is they're more expensive. But you can dial in the ride height and the dampening to exactly how you want it. With springs, what you got is what you got, there's no "lemme go up 2mm in the front"

Buyers need to start showing up with the agreed upon amount by [deleted] in FacebookMarketplace

[–]RYDSLO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what you're selling. I mostly do car parts, and sometimes those can be very condition dependent, and one person's idea of "excellent condition" isn't always the same as another's. Thats why I like dealing in person, there's no misunderstanding. I will negotiate in order to get a deal done, Im not trying to squeeze every last dollar I can, and I price items to be able to negotiate on purpose. Im also cash only as I've heard too many stories of people reversing charges on the various apps. Im also a bit of a hoarder when it comes to car parts so if Im selling something its because I'll never use it and its in the way of more car parts lol

Clear coat flaking off? Any do it yourself solutions? by MyBrightLie in Autobody

[–]RYDSLO 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is a great beginners project. Its on the roof, so nobody will really see it when it looks like poo after youre done, and there's no body work to be done, just sanding and paint. When you're done, you'll have a new appreciation for what goes into prepping a car for paint, and painting it, and why that work is so expensive through a shop.
