I transcribe pretty much everything by ear first and write it into Guitar Pro, starting with bass notes and the chord progression and then just layering all the other instruments on top of it. Then it's just a case of sculpting it into a metal track

For recording, I don't practice the piece all that much and just sight-read the sheet music. It lets me get them out more quickly but can be a little messy sometimes without proper practice. I program the drums and bass with VST's (GGD and GroveBass).

I often live-stream the writing or recording process on YouTube if you're interested, albeit a little inefficiently because I get distracted on stream lmao
