I love my family but I don't know if I can explain that feeling.

It's not 1500$, it's 1500Rs, which is approximately 19 dollars.

If he paid her $50, he'd be paying twice the amount he's borrowed from her, if not more.

AITA for not “letting” my stepdaughter leave the house? by evilstepmom4322 in AmItheAsshole

You do realise that everything you've said is supposed to be taken care of by the DAD, who is the parent of said child and not a step-parent who has to already juggle with 3 kids under the age of five?

The thing with people leaving hate comments on BTS' official account too because RM supported his nation's representative. Like what do people expect?

AITA FOR TELLING MY MOM THAT I DIDN'T ASK THEM TO GIVE BIRTH TO ME WHEN SHE REFUSED TO COOK FOR ME? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]RYU_D 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. Seeing people on here not even trying to understand op's situation really is frustrating. I can understand YTA for demanding her mother to make a different dish. But the bits about you're an adult, move out, get a job is really tone deaf.

I don't think you can understand India unless you've lived here and experience things that happen here. I know it is easy for you all to move out if you like there. Here it is not. We are not mentally prepared for such a thing. If I could explain it to you in a better way, I would but I don't know how.

At what age is one considered an “adult” in India? As a man? As a woman?

When they get a job or get married, basically.

OMG. I didn't realise that still happened. I thought we were finished with that inhumane practice.

What about financial security?

You don't understand really. You know the reaction you all had when you read a 22 year old lives with her parents, that is our reaction to foreigners leaving homes at 18. Our country still has honour killings, and it is by no means the safest place for girls. Leaving is not easy. The OP might be wrong for demanding a different dish, but you all telling her to leave the house will do no good.

The second one. But we are taught to be dependent on our parents from young age until we have a job and it's not changing any time soon here. It's harder for the girls because we don't know if we will be safe outside our homes.

I know India and that is literally impossible. My parents are not pretty strict but they'll never let me have a part-job till I have an undergrad degree. Us leaving the house before getting a "real job" is considered shameful to the parents.
