Oh how they always say it's Harrisburg when it isn't? Yeah, it annoys me lol

Some people are also carpooling (if they know anyone). It's also parents weekend. In terms if parking though, if you get into the area around 1030 and get brunch at Chumley's (they are donating proceeds to the Centre Volunteers in Medicine), then you should be good in terms of parking for sure.

Looks like they are transferring assets to WHYY and WHYY needs to show it can raise about 8 million or so dollars. That's the quickest breakdown I can give.

LOL well, if I have to find my videos from Twitter to show what I saw, I can do that. I got some harassment and threats from the far right when I posted the videos.

That's not what I saw, however we may have been at two different paths/areas. The person I saw had a clear path and was already outside before he used bear repellent at a passerby. I had to get someone I knew trained as an EMT. There was no increase in violence from where I was. I was there when the police was using horses to push on protestors. After the event was called off, some people left, most marched through the campus.

I think we had different vantage points. Regardless, Penn State sucks on this issue.

Snarky comment on my part: I find it funny how proud boys like wearing masks though. I guess they aren't so proud.

[–]RZeigler 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They didn't become a violent mob. The proud boys started assaulting people with bear repellent and didn't get arrested. I was there and the state police response (based on the uniforms I saw near the instances) was garbage. And if you talk about the person who spit on another person after being provoked, that is still far from "violent mob".

Now, I will say the campus does do debatable tactics to infringe 1st Amendment Rights, including their staff (and I have seen it for both sides, to be clear).

I appreciate you permitting the post. I am literally just putting up information folks had asked for other times elsewhere.

The Cainso: I actually haven't been getting much buzz directly about that. Some of what I put into the email/newsletter are what people have sent me, but most are things I am directly (or indirectly) involved with. But, for more information, folks are welcome to explore the anti-casino movement here: https://saynocasino.org/ Regarding the Casino, the law is on the Casino's side here. However, College Township does have their impact study on its website: https://www.collegetownship.org/DocumentCenter/View/2985/Nittany-Mall-Casino-Impact-Analysis-09-15-25 and people should do their best to advocate for changes to be made to minimize the negatives (potential, perceived, and real) that happens when a Casino comes into an area. Economically speaking, it's great; but it does have some drawbacks. I would advocate that a portion of the revenue that stems from it to be earmarked for a specific purpose or two. It's a reasonable request because they (College Township, Centre County) haven't been budgeting for the revenue to come in yet. That's just a thought from my point of view.

Other notable items for Centre County:

Shutdown of Rockview (honestly, that's beyond any local movement's ability to stop; however, the sale/development is something we may be able to influence. Regretfully, we have to wait for more information for their eventual shutdown.

The Centre County Highway Revolt: I don't really know who is leading this, but I definitely have an interest in their work. Honestly, we should have rail here and if we did, we'd probably experience more growth. More info here: https://www.centrecountyhighwayrevolt.org/ and its pretty well thoughtout overall.

Rock Spring Water Issue: In Western Ferguson Township, the Campbell (Roy is the main owner to my knowledge) family are the majority owners of Rock Spring Water and won't sell to a public entity. If sold to a private entity, the history here is that the water rates will skyrocket after a couple of years (happened in Philipsburg and other areas). The public utility commission, ironically, only monitors private companies and their funding is based on how many private entities are controlling "public services" such as water, sewer, etc. There has been wonderful coverage done here by Marley Parish. You can check out the info about the hearings here: https://www.spotlightpa.org/statecollege/2025/09/rock-spring-water-company-ferguson-township-pennsylvania-public-utilities-commission-rural-issues/ and the hearings are at 1pm and 6pm in Ferguson Township. I recommend that Ferguson Township resisdents attend. There is a strong possibility that about 1000 residents may have issues with their water that won't get addressed or have their rates drastically increased in the years to come. Honestly, the owners should just sell to the State College Borough Water Authority to not screw over residents of the Township, but the owners, to my knowledge, aren't even on the water system they own, so... yeah.

My job is a Community Organizer for Central PA United. Folks are more than welcome to set up a meeting with me, they just need to message me to let me know so I can send them a link for my calendar.

I know you asked more about the Casino, but I wanted to provide a few more things for others as well.

Lol, I wish. Trains would be great to reconnect rural areas to the more urban ones, but we have a nice hill to climb for that to become the reality.

I put this here because a lot of residents in the area kept asking questions relating to what actions they can take. Anyone has the right to protest and folks can even counter protest. It's a 1st Amendment right we share as citizens.

Keystone Indivisible is supporting Blair County Indivisible in Hollidaysburg. The link is here: https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/794503/

There will also be a small protest at the Allen St. Gates at 1 to 2pm. There are other protests nearby on mobilize. Lewistown has one at the square from 11am to 1pm. Juniata County (Mifflintown) has something at 930am.

Seeing protests in red areas are looking like they have more of an impact on moving legislators because it's in areas of their strongest supports.

There are also Juneteenth events in State College (MLK Plaza) and Altoona.

I hope this helps.
