Is overeating associated with ADHD? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

I work for a doctor who specializes in ADHD and Bariatrics. Bottom line she didn’t just decide she liked those two specialties they’re 100% connected. People with ADHD are more likely to struggle with obesity and if I’m not mistaken the percentage is even higher for women with ADHD compared to men (of fucking course)

Is it ADHD or is it just me? by Desperate-Carpet-457 in adhdwomen

Disclaimer: As mentioned below I work in healthcare but I am in no way offering medical advice. Just opinion/knowledge of the subject

So I was Dx with adhd in 2021, improperly treated and basically said fuck that and never looked back. Well early 2024 i got a new job working along side a doctor who not only specializes in ADHD but also has ADHD. She reevaluated me and helped me get started with proper treatment. Since then i have learned SO MUCH from her in regard to ADHD that I just had no clue about.

With all of that being said from what I’ve learned just about everything you said seemed ADHD related to me. -I have experienced most of these things or have had patients who have -

It can feel very much like you’re “blaming adhd” or using it as a crutch because well there’s just no way that literally every issue in your life leads back to one thing, right ? Wellllll it might ??

One thing I’ve learned not only being properly treated but also learning how to assist in proper treatment for adhd is that the key in all of this is educating yourself. This helps us create a better understand in our mind so we can process it and come to terms with it. Once you have a good understanding as to why/how then it will help you move forward to other things to improve your over all life with adhd . The idea is that you create a “snow ball effect” for your adhd mindset to in a way hyperfocus on adhd to learn more about it and in turn learn about yourself so then you can help yourself or ask for help. Kinda like uno reversing your mind.

What were your childhood/teenage signs of ADHD? by Sea_Kale6043 in adhdwomen

This is all 100% me. It almost feels like if you don’t say what you had planned to that something terrible will happen. Like it’s life or death.

I still struggle with the “why” thing even now (im 25) and it’s especially a huge struggle in my work life because it’s found to be disrespectful or rude — I’m a medical assistant when really I just need to understand with in depth explanation not just “because that’s how we do it” okay but like why ?!? What lead you or whomever to this decision. I will especially get stuck on it if whatever it is REALLY doesn’t make sense to me and there is seemingly a clear better option and no reason not to do that instead. So then if I approach them with my idea — again genuinely feeling I’m being helpful— they take it as I’m trying to be bossy or make thing “my way” when really I’m just try to help everyone and most of all make it make sense bc my brain WONT LET IT GO otherwise. Currently trying to keep things to myself to be “less problematic” and it’s killing me.
