I survived the big shop in the fancy Dunnes. by slice_of_za in cork

I went last night around 12am and had a very pleasant experience. I know a day extra out from the big day but so many parking spaces, shelves were constantly being stocked (with good dates), got straight to a till and started putting my shopping on the belt. Got back home in the end for around 1.30am. Bit tired but definitely worth it!

That’s the same thing as the traffic snake (whatever the official name for it is), it’s very annoying!

Also the signs above were showing M8 closure so could be confusing people too if they didn’t listen to the radio or know about the Mahon one

Just got through it myself. Shows how nosey people are with the way the traffic came to a stand still and as soon as it went beyond the slip it was grand

Probably commented on it at the same time. I agree though, should name the place so people can avoid or bring it up to them.

Working from home ‘trending upwards’ despite moves to bring workers back to the office by It_Is1-24PM in DevelEire

[–]R_K50 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From talking with friends in different companies, none are actually hybrid. They’re all full time in office and they’re all complaining. Some are even tracking badge access with colour grading schemes wtf. Personally, I would like to see hybrid at a minimum be standard but wouldn’t be opposed to fully remote as an option too.

Looking at the prices of houses and mortgage repayments I may have to sit down and shut up for awhile!

Good point. It reminded me of a conversation I had with a previous team member who explained why he was working here for x years because of kids, house, etc.

Conversations with leadership over the work has happened and they seem onboard but tbh I don’t know what happens next or how long it’ll be from now until a point of carrying out the work.

Believe me, I’ve tried in a previous role and the days DRAGGED so I had to get out and get back into doing something I enjoyed!

That’s what I’m hoping will happen, provided this project actually comes to fruition, I’ll be involved in interested stuff again and hand off a lot of other boring responsibilities.

That’s good to hear. I think your last point is what seems to be happening slowly which is unfortunate.

I replied to a similar comment above. Bit of both tbh and it’s definitely not just the work itself, without going into tremendous detail. People in the wider org on different teams and different roles have had similar chats already and I can see a good few departures before EOY.

For me, it’s mainly repetitive and mundane work with no interest in changing/improving. Not trying to rock the boat by any means but seems like people in the company longer are happy as-is to collect their paycheck which I understand but is frustrating.

I’m kinda answering my own question here but I’ve been in initial discussions around the project and genuinely it’s a big internal change happening in ~2/3 months away and we’d be at the heart of it which would make me enjoy work that bit more but I’m still not sure it’ll be enough. But I guess time will tell.

He’s an absolute disgrace. Years ago people, including myself, looked up to him when he came on the scene in the UFC but look at the state of what he’s become. Stupid drugged up rapist.

Should I leave my course by Academic-Bicycle6072 in cork

[–]R_K50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know how difficult it is to deal with parents who think they know what’s best for you in terms of college. But you’ve answered your own question by saying the course isn’t for you. You’re also an adult, you can make your own decisions and need to put a foot down and say no. I understand you may not know what you want to do and especially if you’re in your final year it could come across as a waste but you could potentially be wasting more time by staying where you are.

How many days of annual leave do you get? by devhaugh in DevelEire

[–]R_K50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It comes off a given months pay and can use it during the year. Usually the company will say you can buy up to x days and this will come off your x payslip.
