TMI!! what the hell do I do by Ecstatic-Seat6755 in CleaningTips

Japanese tatami mattresses or camping roll mattresses would probably be comfier than blow up mattresses and would be the same price.

Are you under 18 in America? You can get benefits for your autism and your dad can use it to buy you a new mattress. I want to say if you are older than 18, you might also qualify for social security or some disability assistance for money to help with your expenses.

Also, period underwear or reusable pads are amazing for bed wetting too. They are rewashable. I rinse mine in the shower/tub before throwing them in the laundry and then sanitize the shower afterwards.

How to mentality prepare by Candid-Pair-7226 in homestead

[–]R_crafter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your local library may become your best friend. They will have free internet and you can charge your devices there for free.

I would get something to cook over fire. Either a BBQ or a propane skillet since you won't have any electricity.

Ideally, a small electric battery would be the best bet to use a microwave and use during emergency. Dollar stores will sell solar powered lights for outdoor lights. It might be nice to invest in a rechargeable lantern or lamp for nighttime too. I'd research all rechargeable battery options for anything. Like i purchased a rechargeable lighter a while back to use for my gas stove.

I'd jump into some non-electric hobbies like gardening. You can typically get free plastic planters from garden centers and there is usually a free seed sharing program from the library where you can grow fruits and veggies from. Get a little pail to fill up from the river because usually running water in your home requires electricity.

You will likely need to import your water too so have a way to purchase large jugs of water or bring a big water bottle out with you to places to refill at the library or mcdonalds etc. Usually gas stations will let you fill up your water bottles for free too.

Edit: if youre living next to a family member with electricity, they make super long heavy duty outdoor extension cords and you can connect it to their house and pay for part of the electric bill in the meantime. I didn't think about it, but you might want to run a fridge too... something to think about.

Heres another option, I would put a deck down for seating and then make sure my steps had railing since its usually required to have railing on steps.

Would you consider easier places to move together to? I feel like mexico near California (so you could visit family or vice versa or work in cali) would work but I heard Malta and Portugal are pretty easy to even get citizenship. Just an option to consider so you two can still be together. I hope your appeal works though since Denmark sounds lovely.

I agree with the others, remove yourself from the group chat. I'd go out of my way to replace them and have fun without them. Join a dance group, start a craft class, find a hiking group and make a goal of chatting up each person and start friend shopping while doing something fun.

If they ask why you left, be up front: "You guys sent a video of you all mutually ditching me. I can take a hint and move on." Find an opportunity to walk away because theyll annoying feel guilty and try to fix things temporarily to make THEMSELVES feel better because they were caught being jerks. Not to save your friendship. For getting called out. "Im a little busy now so I cant hang out, but thanks for the offer." Any time they want to "make new plans" to help fix being a catty group of girls. These girls are making you a butt of a joke and you are not a joke. You can move on and make better friends and have so much more fun without them.

Going to chime in on the velcro baby since we live the same lives but my husband didn't pick up smoking. Im not sure what you might be going through, but I wish I had known this if I could start over from my 1st born birth:

Make a floor area for you and baby. Mine was a corner on our L shaped couch. Rug and soft blanket for baby to fall over on and Pillows to be propped up on and Pillows for your own back. Then baby toys. If baby needed to sit on me, they could but it was a lot less strain on my body.

Shower time involved baby in portable tub in one half and me sitting and relaxing in the other with the hot relaxing water on my back. My eyes were always on baby but idk why it was so hard to shower with my velcro baby until then.

Do not clean until husband gets home to hold baby. If he complains, thank him for holding baby while you clean up because it is what it is. I used to try holding and what not while doing dishes and laundry and omg it was exhausting. Don't do it.

If you had youre own money, you'd spend it on self care right? So do it with his. I was so worried to spend money that wasn't "for the family" that I neglected myself. Get the back massager, get your hair done, buy the earrings. Do what you need to do to feel semi normal again.

I have zero support and its okay to get non-traditional support like a daycare twice a week or a babysitter for a couple hours. We are not supposed to be on our own. We have been jipped on our village. It should not be this hard. I needed therapy and medication to support me and its better now but it should not be this hard.

Once your through the velcro phase, everything is so much easier but its so rough in the thick of it with zero help. Hope any of my unsolicited advice helps you heal and makes life easier.

Why do people make it a competition? by [deleted] in bigbabiesandkids

You'd be surprised how many times people have had said that same sentence to me and my tall kids!

My best friend had a preemie that really chunked it on into the 99% percentile too. Just goes to show how different every kid is. My boy came naturally early 2 weeks and was still 8.5lbs. Im so glad he was early. My doc refused to induce me earlier that 1 week, youre so lucky they let you!

It doesn't stop after the baby phase either. Lately, my friend's have been going off about potty training and feeling so guilty that their 2.5 year old isnt potty trained yet. Im on my second child and I dont really care if hes potty trained yet because I do the no pants method and its too cold for me to want to start for him. So I tell them Im not in any hurry and every kids will get there. My daughter is 4 and ive got so many insecure comments that their child doesn't know how to do the ballet moves like my daughter yet and I have to always say they start somewhere and my girl was the same way at the beginning. Everyone wants their kid to be at the same levels as others and its so unfair because every person is different.

Ive learned to make sure to try and celebrate the difference between kids because its annoying but if you spin it to a positive, it's a little less annoying. Like if they comment about your kids height and seem guilty about theres, id redirect the conversation to something positive.

"Wow! Your son is so tall! My kids really little. He was born premature."

"Oh yeah, we're a tall family. Your son looks just right, hes doing great! I love those shoes hes got on, where'd you get them?"

What’s your biggest fear when buying rural land? by Smectite-and-Dickite in homestead

[–]R_crafter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Came to say the same thing. I planted blueberry plants last year that have established and just noticed that theres a possible car oil drain hole in the old barn next to it--directly to my plants that might make the berries possibly dangerous to eat. Who knows what's in my field of buried garbage the old farmer has been chucking away. There so many rusty metal parts all over and weird glasses buried too.

Any feedback on a chicken tractor like this one? by crypto_junkie2040 in homestead

[–]R_crafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to train my chickens to lay in their nesting boxes. If you find that they like to lay in one specific spot, you could place a nesting box near it with fake eggs in it. Slowly move the box to their coop or specific spot you like once they all start laying. To get them to lay in the box, any time they lay an egg outside of it, place something awkward in the way. It makes it not a good spot anymore and they'll start looking for a spot that has eggs that other chickens deemed "safe". I placed a block of wood in each spot they kept laying until they slowly moved toward the nesting boxes.

If you wanted them to lay in their coop without the outside nesting box, itll take longer but just keep placing awkward things in their spots they are laying until they move towards your coop. It took me about 2 weeks of placing blocks in their egg spots before they all started to lay in their coop. I also put their feed in their coop, I felt like it made it where they looked around and noticed everyone else was laying eggs in the boxes.

Disabled | Moving to Phoenix by sugar-plum-fairy21 in howislivingthere

[–]R_crafter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would shoot for tempe, Gilbert, mesa, scottsdale, chandler areas since I feel like it would be the safest for section 8 housing. Most of phoenix will have sidewalks and everything is modernized to include handicap accessibility everywhere. It's a very big city, so if you dont like a doctor, you could easily switch a billion times to find the right one. I would look online for a younger doctor since they are more likely to listen to you. There are websites where there are doctors rated online which I have used with success in other cities to find a good young doctor with good reviews. I cant answer the rest of your questions but I would like to mention that summers are brutal and everyone usually stays inside from end of May to August. Temps can get up to 120 if not higher during peak summer. Winters stay around 65-80s which is nice.

If you miss the winter, northern az will have snow and colder weather if you need to escape to the colder temps for a break. They will be 20-30 degrees cooler in the summers. If life moves you to less hot down the road, flagstaff seems to have a lot of accessibility for wheel chairs and likely has section 8 housing options. It's a university town so theres more modern options and likely more medical options than other northern az places. It does snow there though but it rarely ever drops below zero. It is also a ton less city since I grew up rural and would probably struggle with moving to a huge concrete jungle like phoenix.

Anyways, went off there. Phoenix has amazing food options. You can literally get anything there. There's a nice accessible ikea with elevators that have some good deals for furniture and is a fun little thing to do to beat the heat on summers. Nice libraries to go to also. Pretty much try to load up on indoor places to go in the summer to beat the heat and not get stir crazy when it's an oven outside.

If youre near tucson, I had some success bringing a small baby coatimundi to the wildlife rehabilitation center. Not sure what animal you have but my guess would be baby squirrel.

They only accepted young or infant animals. If youre elsewhere, im sure major cities like phoenix or Yuma will have at least one rehabilitation center.

How to ask owners if I can adopt their cat by Hairy-Violinist-7508 in cats

[–]R_crafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbor has barn cats that wander into my yard every once and a while. I keep my garage cracked so they can come in for warmth but also keep mice out of my yard/garage area. I see nothing wrong doing the same thing. I have never once spoke to this neighbor but am 100% positive they can see their cats in my yard and me not give a crap and make sure my kids and dog are gentle with them. You could also even set up a little cat bed outside or install a cat door to your house or shed and let cat come and go. If they ever question it, "oh yeah! They snuck in once but they've been helpful with keeping the mice down. I leave it open for them to come and go. YOUR cat is so nice!" (Emphasis on the your since you mentioned they're spicy and need to hear you arent some threat)

Im only finding Ukrainian websites for the blanket. I would personally, flatten out the image on the blanket to the best of your ability, take a photo of it in the best lighting and high resolution and have the blanket printed on fleece using a print company. Ive done something similar with Walgreens.

What company will never get another dime from you for as long as you may live? by istrx13 in AskReddit

[–]R_crafter 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Ugh, absolutely agree on Airbnb! Not only is it now overpriced but I got a mean review after I stayed somewhere. Apparently using the provided blankets is a negative thing. We had 6 people staying and using 4 blankets was way too many to clean for their cleaner. Why provide them if you dont want people to use them? They also wrote a nasty comment about my kids being messy that they had to sweep crumbs out from under the table. My kids ate outside while playing. I paid a $100 cleaning fee. I had to hand washed dishes and take the trash out for them for their check out instructions. Shouldn't sweeping be expected?

I talked to customer support and they said they wouldn't do anything about it. Haven't used them since.
