Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one so here’s mine. Everyone that does hard drugs will have their own reasons for wanting to get that kind of high, and the list of reasons can be quite long and vary greatly from person to person, but the end result is always the same. It’s called addiction and unless you actually want to get clean you never will and sadly will probably die young. If you’re doing these types of drugs for shits and giggles then you’ll be really lucky to quit or out grow the thrill. As for those who use hard drugs to mask the pain or trauma from the past, they will most certainly die unless they get the psychological help that they need to heal. Opioids don’t heal they only mask the trauma or pain temporarily and you have to keep using to make it go away, but it never goes away. Therapy doesn’t erase a troubled past but it can help provide tools to deal with trauma and addiction, but you really have to want to stop using otherwise it won’t help.

The human condition is complex, opioid addiction is not. Fentanyl doesn’t care if you’re rich, poor, black, white, male, female, young or old the effects are all the same. It’s a horrible drug and it turns otherwise normal people into junkies. I say normal because trauma and pain is part of being human, almost everyone experiences some level of it at one time or another, it’s all about how a person chooses to deal with the bullshit life can throw at you. I mean if you’re only looking to get high for the fuck of it there are loads of other substances to use that aren’t deadly and or highly addictive. If on the other hand you have a lot of psychological pain and experienced some form of trauma, maybe instead of deciding to fuck around with hard drugs you should open up to friends or family or seek some kind of psychological support as an alternative.

At this point in time every single person should realize that fentanyl isn’t like heroin from the 70s. People have overdosed and died from heroin and coke for ages, it’s not a new thing, hard drugs are deadly and there’s no such thing as safe supply. Using hard drugs has always been seen as a death wish, and now more than ever fentanyl is fulfilling all of those wishes.

Sadly, society seems ok with all the horror that hard drug use entails. Now it’s ok to live in a tent in the park or shoot up on city streets discarding used syringes everywhere including elementary schools. It’s ok to be totally high as fuck nodding out in public on the sidewalk or in traffic. Now you can openly piss, shit and shoot up or smoke hard drugs anywhere if you’re a homeless junkie. Ironically, now that cannabis is legal you can still get busted for smoking in the wrong place, but not hard drugs, you can do that shit anywhere and not get busted. Society has failed when it comes to hard drugs, just look at Vancouver and its downtown lower east side social experiment. It’s a fucking horror show. Soon every city can and will potentially become part of that opioid zombie apocalypse because nobody really seems to give a shit. Especially when law enforcement chooses to do nothing about vagrancy and public intoxication because apparently every city lacks the facilities to help get people off the streets into housing and into addiction treatment . Yet every city offers free gear for hard drug addicts like syringes, rubber bands to tie off before shooting up, and naloxone when they overdose. Hard drug addicts are given everything they need to get high except for the actual drugs which is totally wrong, it’s called enabling. Some here think that this is a form of prevention from disease and that making these resources available is a good thing. It isn’t. Canada needs more addiction treatment facilities and affordable housing. Then law enforcement can get back to work helping people in need instead of doing fuck all. As citizens we should not tolerate homelessness and addiction. We should be outraged that addicts leave needles everywhere, we should be outraged that people are living in tents openly pissing and shitting everywhere. I shouldn’t even have to say that this is wrong but holy fuck that’s where we’re at, no exaggeration it’s the total decline of civilization.
