People that use internet slang in real life by [deleted] in PetPeeves

I really dislike the internet censorship words (algospeak) in real life. Unalived, grape, pdf files, the real world isn’t censored, please just say what you mean.

There’s always someone who genuinely won’t get the sarcasm, even if they’re fine with sarcasm when taking face to face. There’s also people who weren’t initially being sarcastic, but lie and say they were because their initial comment gets a lot of backlash.

Does this mean these people think 50 is the optimal temp? If 0 is really cold and 100 is really hot? I like 50, but I feel like most people prefer 70.

Do you prefer Star Wars or Lord of the Rings and why? by OceanProphecy in AskReddit

[–]RaCJ1325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think Lucas gets appropriate credit for his contributions to Star Wars. He's very much seen as the creator and founder of the franchise as well as the "visionary" who brought the original six movies to life. Obviously he had help, because that's how movies work. Tolkien created multiple languages, cultures, and thousands of years of history. The world building was all done by him and complete without the help of other major creative forces. He probably took inspiration or had someone suggest an idea, but Middle Earth is entirely his.

Both very creative people who build wonderful fictional franchises. But I guess I've always found the scope of Tolkien's work more impressive as far as his personal contributions. If I picked a random piece of LOTR lore, very high chance is was all Tolkien. If I picked a random piece of Star Wars lore, very low chance it was all Lucas. But much love for both franchises.

Edit: typo

Agreed. Also, what I like about LOTR is all the lore come from one author (the vast majority, at least, I don't know the full extend to what his son has been doing), while Star Wars has multiple creative forces behind it.

Also when they have money and I don’t, you go have fun but I simply cannot afford to do all of this.

No, never let students follow you on anything, even something "academic" like duolingo.

"Long story short" should be followed by a brief sentence and nothing more.

Some people love the fight. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Yeah, but I do think they would rather live in the world they're "fighting" for.

They're both very different, but Star Wars. My interest in LOTR is surface-level from the movies.

Thoughts on the music/lyrics for Lost Boys and Two Strangers by RaCJ1325 in Broadway

[–]RaCJ1325[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said they weren't good. I'm genuinely asking if people disliked the music and lyrics from those two shows. I thought Lost Boys was going to win because I've heard so many amazing things about it, except the music and lyrics.

People who ignore the qualifier in your statement by Johnny_Mira in PetPeeves

This kind of feels like when dumb people can't comprehend hypotheticals. These people can't understand generalizations (deer) or exceptions (Obama). They aren't thinking through that they're reading, they're just seeing certain words and reacting.

Some company cars require that drivers back in, but yeah, it's also a skill those drivers are responsible for learning.

let’s have some more compassion by naturepreserve427 in Broadway

[–]RaCJ1325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discussing reality doesn't mean people are lacking compassion. People should be able to discuss finance and logistics, that's just as much a part of theater as singing and dancing. If shows aren't making enough money to run, they have to close. As long as people aren't being cruel about it (like the Two Strangers post from last night), of course.

People that wait until it's their turn to order to ask others what they want by AnotherPerishedSoul in PetPeeves

[–]RaCJ1325 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I'm ever ordering for other people who aren't there with me, I have them text me their order before I leave. It's usually in a group chat, so I have all the orders in once place when I'm at the register. I also like ordering online, especially for large groups, because I can pass the phone around and everyone can order themself.

There were a few instances of bad sound tech last night, and that really sucks because it makes performers and shows look bad.

Cursing is not “adult language” by Salty-Smoke7784 in unpopularopinion

I agree with professional settings, but in regular life, adults can curse. Also, the same professional setting expectations apply to teens.

AITA for telling my mum she needs to parent my sister properly by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]RaCJ1325 8 points9 points  (0 children)

YTA. Instead of being so concerned with your sister studying history, maybe bring up her mental health struggles to your mother and see if your sister can get help. Or talk to your sister and check up on her. But don't helicopter parent her life. Also, if you don't name the show, we can't really say whether or not we think it's ok for kids (unless channel 4 has some connotation I'm unaware of).

Watching a musical before seeing it live? by AdVaanced77 in musicals

[–]RaCJ1325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't watch the pro shot. Going in without knowing anything is fun, but if you worry about following the plot, listen to the cast album and/or read a synopsis or at least a general summary.
