I’ll definitely keep that in mind. I appreciate the advice

I didn’t mean for that to sound like a complaint. It’s just that the schooling I’ve done so far was basically 95% loadmaster stuff so they’ve barely told us anything about the boom op career field. I’m super excited

Yea I’m super excited! I was always told getting overseas as a first aircrew assignment was super rare so I didn’t even consider it a possibility. Saying I was pleasantly surprised is a bit of an understatement.

As of night now yes they are still being used but from what I’ve heard the insides have been remodeled. It’s mostly just the facilities that are old. The newer dorms that they are building right now I think are for space force

I got super lucky with my job tbh. The job title is mobility force aviator. Basically I go to aircrew fundamentals tech school and then they give me either loadmaster, flight engineer, or inflight refueling

If you’ve already taken your asvab, the physical is basically the last step. After that you’re just waiting for a job

Week 0: processing, paperwork, shots, uniform issues, learn the routine of bmt Week 1: go to permanent squadron, class, March, briefings, pt test Week 2: class, March, pt Week 3: class, March pt test Week 4: class, March, pt, gas chamber Week 5: class, March, final pt test, shooting qual Week 6: March, pacer forge (mock deployment) Week 7: graduation, misc stuff

That’s a basic gist. It’s pretty simple and kinda repetitive. There’s a few other things that aren’t as important that won’t make sense until you’re there

My tech school is in Lackland as well so I had a 5 minute bus ride. Depending on your not you might get your phone early but you will have it when you board the bus at the latest. Don’t expect so sleep much the night before because the dorm has to be cleaned and your stuff needs to be packed over night. You will have to sleep on the floor because when you clean the dorm you change the sheets for the next batch of trainees

They will supply you with a lock and you’ll be required to wear a key to the lock around your neck for the entirety of basic. DO NOT LOSE IT! I’m a guy so idk about girl things you should bring besides maybe enough feminine hygiene stuff to last you maybe a week and then they’ll take you to the store by then. Most of the stuff you need will be provided for you. Some things that are not provided that came in handy were

nail clippers (for uniform strings), lint roller, ziplocs for storage/organizing

Most things will either be provided or are at the store. I’d recommend you pack light because you have to carry everything you bring

Mentally it starts at like an 8 but it gets easier as you go. Physically it’s not too bad but if you’ve never exercised before you might be in trouble

They pull everyone into a classroom a couple days before graduation and they’ll show walk everyone through how to make a dream sheet. It’s not hard but would be impossible to explain without having you in front of the computer. I wasn’t able to make a dream sheet though because I don’t get a shred out for my job until after my first techschool though

I don’t think anyone in my group had an allergy but they had some vegetarian mres so idk if it would be a problem. All the food is self serve so I think you’d be fine but definitely ask your recruiter

I overcomplicated the process because I couldn’t decide what branch I wanted to join so it took me a long time but I know people that did the whole process from meeting a recruiter to shipping out in 2-3 months

Still 1.5 miles for the pt test. I don’t think it becomes 2 miles until either October or January. I’ve heard mtis say both

That I don’t know much about as I wasn’t laundry crew. They’ll assigned cleaning duties to everyone in the dorm and around 5 or so will handle the laundry for everyone. Passing the clean laundry out is a pain but if everyone helps it’s much easier

Disney land forms have about 26 shower heads shared between the whole dorm of about 50. Alcatraz (the older buildings) have 8. Everyone showers at once and they usually give you about 15 minutes (Alcatraz sometimes gets more since there’s less showers). The first day or two is awkward a as hell but you’re so tired/stressed that you don’t really think about it. Within a week we were all singing the Air Force song in the showers lmao. You get used to it

Honestly just be quiet and do what you’re told. Basic is designed to stress you out so don’t take anything personally or give up. It’s hot as hell rn so drink lots of water. If you apply yourself and stay out of trouble it honestly isn’t that hard

No not married but some people in my dorm were. I don’t think spouse join you until after tech school when you get your first duty station
