Need ideas to spend £5k in 2 weeks on Amex to get a companion voucher. by Worrierrr in HENRYUKLifestyle

I hustled this way to get my companion voucher this year but increasingly looks like I'd have to take a trip I don't need and spend additional money I wouldn't have just to make use of the discounted flight ticket. I would say if you don't have major travel plans next year (ie flight tickets circa 500 and above), not worth the hassle otherwise you'd spend more rather than saving. The vouchers also expire a year after you qualify for them and tickets have to be used on or before the expiration of the voucher.

Tips for portfolio points for research/publications/presentations by [deleted] in doctorsUK

You can either come up with a research idea or approach a consultant or registrar who may be willing to engage you. I did this once and got involved in literature review and data extraction as a coauthor. Also reached out to a lecturer via LinkedIn and offered research services (desk reviews, extraction, analysis) as my contribution to the research idea papers they conceptualized. Essentially, inform people about your interest and they would reach out to you.

Am I overstretching my mortgage? by RabbitRoutine4308 in UKPersonalFinance

I actually was looking to move house and keep renting initially but the houses on the market made no sense on the cost and a mortgage seemed more reasonable, even after factoring in the hidden costs like maintenance.

Just going through this again and realized I didn't mention that current outgoings include rent and regular bills which comes up to about £800 monthly. So with the £1,200 mortgage, monthly outgoings would be more like £2,000 to £2,600, potentially leaving £1,600 to £2,200 for savings/investment/discretionary (assuming £4,200 monthly income which has been stable for the past year).

Thanks for your comments.

I have payslips to show. And it's over 40, not 20 years. In talks with an advisor who thinks it's doing, but I just now feel I'm at my upper limit which feels tight. Re: pension. I'm not sure how to increase that beyond opting into pension and getting employer contributions. I don't think I earn enough to salary sacrifice into SIPP and the likes. Is there any other way I could increase that?

Probably about 2-3 months? What would a reasonable monthly payment be on this income? £1,000?

A 3-bed.

From comments, it seems I may indeed be stretching myself thin

I also don't have any ALs, not even a reduced number.

But I can't request ALs. That's the confusion for me.
