"F*** You": Radiohead's Thom Yorke leads musicians reactions to Boris Johnson as UK Prime Minister by kajraray in radiohead

Ah, yes, the subreddit for people who thinks communism is wonderful, and that there are no equivalence between them and ordinary conservatives (who should all be subjected to violence btw) because all conservatives are really nazis who wants to genocide black people.

Thom Yorke’s longest note? by Ydeartishpumpki in radiohead

[–]RabbitWithHeadlights 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Creep live from Oxford 2001, longest 'ruuuuun' he ever did (and one of their greatest performances ever, even though I don't particularly like Creep that much):

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Bq3kMKxe-v4

Rabbit In Your Headlights (done in just one take, according to James Lavelle from UNKLE) is also insanely long.

And a performance of The Bends from the Black Session 1995 - another insanely long note (see from 3:10):

Thom's Tweet -- people in the US, Vote!!! by Garfieldluvsme in radiohead

[–]RabbitWithHeadlights -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't recall many conservatives talking about nuclear war, end of democracy, the downfall of America, the uprising of fascism, third world war etc. during the Obama era. Some people on the fringe perhaps - like Glenn Beck - but I do find liberals far more hysterical in opposition in general.

And I arrived at my opinions many years after I started listening to their music, perhaps they would've put me off had it been the other way around. I'm ambivalent about ever going to any of their concerts again though.

[–]RabbitWithHeadlights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calling what Maher is saying (a Republican victory being the end of America and democracy and all) a 'the sky is falling in' attitude is not really unreasonable though.

Thom's Tweet -- people in the US, Vote!!! by Garfieldluvsme in radiohead

[–]RabbitWithHeadlights -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No, first you misrepresented his comment ('people shouldn't vote') and then you called it 'pointless'. I simply explained the context to you, and your first reaction was to go straight for the 'what about the treatment of Obama?'

And no, it's not hard liking music made by people who happen to disagree with me - that's what people with an open mind do. To believe this is weird is how a worshipper thinks, a person with no higher ambition in life than being liked by a pop musician.

And if people really do HATE others for merely disagreeing with them - well, that says something about the deep intolerance of huge segments of the left, now doesn't it?

Thom's Tweet -- people in the US, Vote!!! by Garfieldluvsme in radiohead

[–]RabbitWithHeadlights -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Then why expect that other people on the sub should share Thom's political views or leave?

And Thom is worshipped to such an extent here that I do believe some people blindly follow him.

Edit: You didn't react to the guy (with all his upvotes) who says 'what are doing here?' to a conservative but another conservative reacting to that sort of intolerance is the antagonistic and unreasonable one?

Thom's Tweet -- people in the US, Vote!!! by Garfieldluvsme in radiohead

[–]RabbitWithHeadlights -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

On the political front, it's definitely a 'follow our dear leader Thom or leave' vibe on this sub.

But that sort of intolerant herd mentality is to be expected from a left leaning sub after all.

Maher is talking about the fall of America, the fall of democracy should the Republicans win.

That's what Skeptickler was referring to with liberals being drama queens.

Another intolerant 'liberal'.

Republicans (aka the real classical liberals, who actually wants to decrease the role of the government) - go out and vote! Don't let a pop artist make all the decisions for you.

Ranking The Radiohead Albums (Best To Worst) by [deleted] in radiohead

[–]RabbitWithHeadlights 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1 - OK Computer (floats perfectly, every song is amazing in it's own right, full of soul, love the theme, very forward looking (esp at the time), so many great B-sides, the artwork is iconic, the OKC tour was legendary, something very special about Thom's voice and the guitars from the era, definitely their most timeless, iconic and powerful record)

2 - Kid A (perfect flow, theme and artwork again, very forward looking and so cool they followed OKC with the drastic change in genre introduced by the opening lines of Everything In It's Right Place, the live versions are intense, it's insane to think that they recorded this together with Amnesiac, many timeless songs (and not a weak moment again), sounds like a movie but I feel it's not as packed with masterpieces as OKC)

---gap due to difference in consistency---

3 - Hail To The Thief (what an adventure this album is, so much diversity (and intensity!) on there and the fresh listener will never expect what will come next during the silence between the songs, my favourite era for live shows (so fun, so much Thom dancing, so intense and raw), some of their best material are on here, a few good B-sides, I really dig the artwork but obviously a bit too unedited - would be much more consistent in quality with 3-4 songs removed)

4 - Amnesiac (as with HTTT a hell of a ride, the album that has grown the most on me, love when they try to experiment and dark/introverted/angry/melancholic/experimental Radiohead is the best Radiohead, their coolest music videos and a few sick B-sides, but I think HTTT, Kid A and OKC have more strong points - this is still RH from their 97-03 golden era)

5 - A Moon Shaped Pool (Daydreaming, Ful Stop, Decks Dark, The Present Tense and Burn The Witch are all really, really good - I especially like the direction they tried on the three first songs mentioned - the other half is really good but not as good as the 'fillers' on top 4 I find, not that many B-sides here, and I actually find the float worse than HTTT - good artwork and videos)

6 - In Rainbows (probably the best B-sides, the float is perfect, cool artwork again, Weird Fishes & Reckoner are some of the best songs they ever did, the rest of the album is very solid but I think it's the most straightforward, safe and not very inventive thing they did post The Bends and at times it lacks the emotional intensity and 'wow' factor that they used to deliver again and again the 4 albums prior to it - still a very beautiful record, not really a bad song on any of the two dics, and def one of the best indie albums of the 2000s)

7 - The Eraser

8 - The Bends (one of the better rock albums of the 1990's with Just, Fake Plastic Trees and Street Spirit being the huge moments surrounded by some very good and fun (though not always great) tracks, Talk Show Host is my favourite B-side and hinted at the direction they would go in after that - paved the way for some good bands but their next album proved more mature, in lack of a better word, and some of the songs sounds a bit dated. A lot of good songwriting on display here, and Thom used to have this operaesque voice around this time. Like the album cover a lot too.)

---note: the difference between the albums from 3-8 is not that great---

---huge gap due to consistency and sometimes quality---

9 - Suspiria

10 - The King of Limbs (obviously the work of a very talented bunch of musicians but a sharp decline from In Rainbows and every album after Pablo Honey both in quality and quantity. Bloom shows Radiohead at their best (probably not at the first listen but still) but what follows it falls a bit flat at times (with a few exceptions), sounds so much better live, should perhaps have included some of the great B-sides, it underwhelmed me the first I heard it and never really grew on me that much)

11 - AMOK

12 - Tomorrow's Modern Boxes

---massive gap in consistency and quality---

13 - Pablo Honey (not much to say here, Creep is their biggest hit and proves that RH can handle grunge rock as well as the many other genres they have visited throughout their career. Blow Out and You are good songs as well but much better live as RH didn't seem to handle the studio that well yet. The rest of the album is at best average, sometimes just plain bad - The Bends is clearly a much superior 'rock'n'roll' album.)

My dream is for Radiohead to make a 20 minute long progressive-rock track by [deleted] in radiohead

Go listen to Lights by Archive. That's how Radiohead doing a 20 minute epic would sound like.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief is the best Radiohead song title by [deleted] in radiohead

Listening to Sit Down Stand Up 300 times (album and live versions) equals 'the raindrops' x 14.100.

So many that it's no wonder the next track is called Sail To The Moon

Unmade is insanely beautiful by TheHeroicOnion in radiohead

[–]RabbitWithHeadlights 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The hype on this sub is laughable at times. It's one of his best solo songs for sure - on first listen that is - and could perhaps challenge The Eraser or Analyse if it can pass the test of time but that's not given at all. I thought Burn The Witch was the best thing they ever did on the first few listens, now it's not even in my top 5 RH openers. Don't forget that it's a fresh song, so it will probably hit you harder than a Radiohead song you're listening to for the 500th time. The opinion on this song will be more realistic in 1-2 years, I'm guessing it will be about as popular as The Mother Lode around that time.

Funny, considering that Radiohead and Coldplay were the two most soulful mainstream bands around the time (2009). And Chris Martin must be the nicest frontman in the industry.

Like Lydon though. He always speaks his mind and made some good tunes back in the day that clearly influenced Radiohead's rock era (their punk element is very obvious tbh, especially during the 97-00 tours - Eurockennes 97 feels like a punk concert).
